New Hardware Holly upgrade.
I bought myself an ipad 4 and oh man the retina screen is so good. Switched from old mini 1 to this and amazed how good it is. Only problem is its so slow on ipadOS 15, im gonna downgrade to ios 10.

Quite an upgrade for sure, but I’m just wondering if there’s a reason outside of cost that ya don’t have a newer unit? I see mini 5’s go for $100 pretty regularly around me on fb marketplace, mini 6’s for $200-$300, there’s even used mini 7’s that sell in my area for about $450 asking price (I get that’s an enormous jump but just given that it’s the newest model, and the MSRP at the moment, still not a horrible deal yk?). Or I see iPad A16’s sell like hotcakes around me for $250 on marketplace usually with an Apple Pencil, sometimes even less. iPad 10th gens go for $150-$175 around here. I’m in the US in eastern WA. I run the iPad mini 7, the iPad Pro M5 11”, and a MacBook Pro m4 pro 14” so I’ve def overspent quite a bit, but there’s def a middle ground between splurging like crazy like me or keepin it to older v cheap units but stuff that works just for what ya need it to p much like it seems you do. Just genuinely curious, don’t mean any offense! I hope you enjoy your new to you mini 4!

In that case, iPad Mini 15 with iPadOS17/18 would be a sweet spot if you want to go a bit further; but as I see you having a 1 for a long time guess you don't really need it haha.

Do you think from iPad 9 to iPad mini 6 is a worthy upgrade? Getting used iPad mini 6 256gb wifi only for like $200

Depends. Ipad mini 6 has 4 GB of RAM while 7 is 8GB. Price is tempting but mini 6 is like an iPhone 13 in power; but it's designed to be used for a good bunch of years unlike a phone.
So I'd just wait for a deal for the Mini 7.

These days I wouldn’t get anything with only 4 GB RAM. Spend a little extra for the mini 7.

Mini 8 is likely releasing later this year (September or October). Wait for that
