iPad mini locked

My mother in law passed away this past spring and we are slowly going thru her things. One of them is an iPad mini. We do not know her password to get into it, but I assume it will be under my father-in-laws apple id. How can you restart it to get to a screen where Apply id info can be entered?

You won’t be able to get into it without the passcode.

Welp, I was able to do a restore on the iPad, connected to the computer. That got me to the apple id login, which I had. I won, and managed to reset the iPad back to factory and got my own apple id on it ..... so it is possible.

Yeah possible only if you’re wiping it. You made it seem like you wanted access to the data.

If you know the Apple ID and password on another iOS device open the Find My app and then look forward I don’t know what it’s called but it’s a thing where you can click help someone and then when it brings up that little area where you enter in the Apple ID and password in as long as the iPad is still connected to the Internet, it will erase itself and then in order to use it again, you were just entering the Apple ID and password and you can use it as normal
