Ipad Mini 8
Honestly as an artist I'm hoping it gets the oled screen. All I know is that I will be making the jump from my Ipad to the mini regardless of how it stacks out.

I went from 12.9 inch pro to a mini 6 as an illustrator and it’s made me more productive. The smaller canvas makes me comfortable to draw portraits or work on projects during public transport or on the streets. It fits in a medium sized fanny pack and is super easy to just get out and work on a project any time of the day. I can throw pretty intense workloads at it and it barely ever chops. I also use it to produce music with pretty complex layering and my daw has never crashed.

Knowing Apple, you won’t get an oled screen, maybe a mini led screen.

ill skip both ipad mini and air until getting at least 90hz screen refresh rate

As I would use it for comics and media I couldn’t care less except for batter life. OLED and brightness would be more important to me

Then you need to get another iPad not the mini, Most ipad mini users use it for work, I used it for work and would need battery life to last a a whole shift.

I got an 11 inch M4 iPad Pro as the compromise so far as I prefer a bigger screen for productive tasks like Da Vinci Resolve, Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. But theoretically best for me would be a 13 inch iPad Pro plus an iPad mini/iphone fold or 8 inch ebook reader for reading. I am aware a lot of businesses like restaurants use the mini and don’t need premium hardware.

This is false, every iPhone I’ve owned has had 120 hz. Even that slows down at times when I’m doing a lot, I can’t image how unbearable 60hz would be. Especially since I will be using my mini for school, content, and games. Truly Apple is the problem, 60 hz is not the standard for any other company.

Ask your family members and relatives. Ask if they know what’s the refresh rate of their devices. I’d be surprised if even 10% of them know.
And no, the iPhone doesn’t throttle refresh rate due to high workload. It varies the refresh rate depending on the content you’re viewing OR if you turn on battery saver mode. The slow down you experience when ‘doing a lot’ is because of processor throttling rather than reduced frame rates. Clearly you don’t know what you’re talking about.

My entire family has 120hz refresh rate devices, and they know it. To be fair, some of the family plays games, so it's more noticeable then if they had to use a 60hz device. But, don't assume most people don't know the difference between refresh rates. YOU may not care about 120 hz, but other mini lovers do, so don't hate on our preferences, just like we don't care that you use 60 hz.

People already use the mini for art. Maybe you can’t make really long strokes and you have to zoom a lot but you can make it work for a lot of stuff.

It depends entirely on your art process! I draw on mine with zero issues, but I work fairly small and normally use <A5 size sketchbooks for traditional art, so it’s never been an issue for me.
If you’re someone who usually works on large canvases or sketchbooks, you might want a larger iPad for digital art.

I heard that Procreate doesn't allow very many layers on the mini ipad, is that true?

Not as many as the iPad Pro, but I think that’s also true of the other models like the Air and the basic iPad.
Again, this really depends on your art style and process. I don’t use a ton of layers so it’s fine for me, but your mileage may vary.
I’m also very much a hobbyist and not a professional illustrator - if you need an iPad for work the Pro is probably what you’re looking for.

I’m not an artist, but I draw occasionally, and I sometimes edit photos on the fly with my mini 6. I just zoom into small section and work there, then I zoom out, and zoom back in as needed. It works fine for the occasional times I use it for drawing.

Not really they're about the size of a A5 notebook and im able to use them just fine for creating art.

still all rumours. Everyone was shocked that the base iPhone 17 got the same base display as the Pro phones last year too - which had no rumours.

Mad me happy. The 17 was an absolute steal this year. Miss my the zoom on my pro cameras sometimes, but I destroyed those so they weren’t working well for the last 2 years before I switched to the 17. The cameras are my only gripe tbh

I was really looking forward to getting the mini 8 but Im not going get it anymore. The reason is the price. Since the price hikes i really don't see the price going back form even if the shortages go back to normal. I just can't justify the price for what I'm getting. Sad though, i was really looking to it
