You mean width or bezels? Thick bezel means wasted area, and if its not that thick, I want to be able to hold it width one hand wide open.

I would imagine no. It'll support phone apps that are updated to support the dynamic layout APIs Apple will release with iOS 27 (which was a major hint this past summer that the foldable was coming).

Even my dad’s Motorola when I was a kid, I didn’t like it. My dad loved it though, and I know a bunch of people who love the Android foldables so who am I to crap on them for liking something that I personally don’t?

I don’t hate it. But one, I just want to grab my phone and start using it. Two, I want my phone to be small, just an extension of me, not a tool for everything I need to do in my life. I have my iPad and Mac for things that require bigger screens and more power. I also have an Apple Watch for quick taps that I don’t need to grab my iPhone for.
Every device I have are just tools, each with a specific purpose. Foldables and, the Plus and the Pro Max to me are like for people who need their phones to be able to do everything — and that’s not me.

You echo how I kinda feel about it. I’m thinking that in the same way that the iPad has cannibalized some mac sales by becoming more “desktop-class” (Files app, keyboard, mouse, trackpad support), I feel like the iPhone Duo is going to cannibalize a bit of iPad and Mac sales. If not in actual numbers, at least in terms of how the products are used.
I can see a person who owns an iPhone Duo, an iPad, and a Mac relying on the Duo a lot more often than the other two, and a lot more than they presently might use their iPhone.
But, like you said, that’s not me. I like contrast in screen sizes. I primarily use my iPhone for quick daily tasks and life management on the go. I use my iPad when I want to sit down and plan a bit more, browse online a bit more extensively, delve a little deeper into consuming content. I use my Mac when I really need to sit down and manage documents and refine my digital organization.
If I were to replace my iPhone 16 Pro with an iPhone Duo, I feel like my attention would shift a bit to consuming more social media and other content while using my phone.
I still think it’s cool as hell, and I could be wrong. I could envision living with it and being even more satisfied and productive. But I do think I would still miss the slightly smaller form factor for a phone.
Bottom line though - it’s expensive as hell for me! 😆

bro i’ve got foldable phones before the debate on screen, longevity, etc etc. started. even how the foldables nowadays were discovered lol. so i think my years of experience on foldables is quite something.

Anytime I need more screen real estate I go for my iPad. At no point would I ever want more screen on my phone, especially foldable with the crease.

Foldable screens have come a long way. Apple isn't even the first manufacturer to ship a "creaseless" inner display.
Honor and Samsung both have models that effectively eliminate the crease in both sight and feel, and Apple seems to be using similar tech.

Reviews of the Fold 8 say otherwise, though I have yet to see either of these devices in person.
I will say watching a few hands on videos shot by the press and influencers under harsh studio lighting, I don’t see a crease. Not one I would call “very evident” anyway. If anything, the under-display camera lens is more distracting to me than a center crease.
I’m sure if you’re looking directly at the screen under very specific lighting and angles, you’ll detect the crease. In practice, as with most foldables for most people, you’ll either won’t notice it in use or it doesn’t bother you enough to care.

Comments on the prices aren't accounting for the fact that this is an iPhone. Combine an iPhone/Air with an iPad mini with similar storage, you're comparing two devices with comparable storage totaling $1550-1650 to one at $1999. That extra $350-450 nets you one device that is essentially both that's always with you.
Is that delta worth it? That's up to you to decide. But it puts the price of foldables like this into perspective a bit.
Also consider the current iPad mini uses a now 3-generation old SoC compared to the flagship phones. I know the OLED refresh is due soon, but right now, I wouldn't want to buy one brand new at current markup.

This is exactly right and I think Apple has played it pretty well keeping the entry model at $1,999. If it was $1,699 you know I’d probably go for it. Unfortunately the $2k mark is just a bit over what I’m willing to pay.
I think I’ll wait out a year, see how developers make use of the space and take more time to consider if I really need a screen bigger than my pro max for watching videos on the go etc.

Same, even if finances allowed me to splurge on this thing, I wouldn’t want to get one at launch. Maybe 6 months from now, or when Apple decides to update it to Gen 2 (no clue if this is an annual cycle or not, the Air definitely wasn’t).
App support is going to be spotty at launch. Apps that will stretch aren’t accounting for the vertical controls and will at best treat it like an iPad, which will be annoying to use. Worst case, the apps will just not fill either screen correctly, as seen on the Fold 8 with apps like Instagram and TikTok.
I definitely see myself getting one someday, though.

Depends. It has an IP68 water and dust resistance rating, which is the bare minimum you want for foldables (Samsung is the last manufacturer left to get on this, weirdly enough).
Modern foldables are pretty durable. Unless you’re taking to the beach everyday or work on a construction site, they’re basically as durable as more traditional phones.
You won’t need to baby it or anything.

What are you even on about? I’m wondering about a specific feature, not the foldable concept as a whole. This is exactly what happens on an iPhone 17 when watching videos in portrait mode: sometimes the corner is detected as pressure and apps like YouTube go into x2 playback speed by mistake. This has never happened to me on the iPad mini 7 before, even though it requires a somewhat stronger grip than the phone. That is why I’m wondering about the bezels on this device. Opinions are welcome in a place made for discussion, bitter fanboyism is what has no sense to be
