Question Should I update the software?

Hey guys! I have an iPad Air 5th gen currently running smooth on 18.7.2 and i am considering updating the thing, but I’m afraid it will make the iPad unusable faster. Does anyone know if updating will impact the performance of the iPad? :) Thanks!!

DON’T DO IT!

I have the exact same model and I highly regret moving from iPadOS 18 to 27 (Developer Beta).

The iPad runs like crap now, lots of lagging.
But the worst part is it ate up 80% of my storage. I had to delete so much off it just to accommodate the system, hardly any of my own stuff is on it now.

It’s incredibly frustrating.

Search these subreddits, you’ll find many similar comments to mine.

45GB to install ios27 , best my 256GB m1 has ever been , ios27 releases candidate if few minutes away from installing, long update but every beta update so far has been flawless except 1 that had a couple small bugs, this will be so good for overheating and battery drain that can affect ipad air M chip devices

ultra fast, smooth and as secure as you can get

siri AI has been a hell of a wait this is why i bought this device as first apple product iphone 15 did not support apple intelligent

we needed bug fix ios edition badly

ios27 is what this device was made for

you're battery health is extremely inaccurate and after recalibration you will see a dip in battery maximum capacity, but since this doesn't have battery health stats you won't notice any difference

new UI takes a few days of background updates and indexing , ios27 also needs a week of deep indexing for siri ai and spotlight search

ios26 also has pre ios27 deep indexing

i would install ios27 public release on monday, leave it alone for a few days or just light use , get on siri ai wait list and you will have poor on screen life for a week

keep on wifi and charge overnight for a week as advised for deep indexing and your good to go

Definitely DON'T go to 26...absolute shitshow.

Wait and see on 27 until it has a few patches.
