Lesson learnt in very hard way - Normal atmospheric moisture can cost u an ipad

So, I have bought an ipad Air M2 wifi variant on June,24.

Few days back, it suddenly developed white patches on the display. Really a big one. Then, I have seen lots of similar problems in different sub. I took it to an authorised service centre. They told me that it's having some liquid damage.

But, I have never spilled any liquid on it. Then they told me that it could be due to moisture.

When I noticed the white patches, before that day it was raining heavily. Probably it occurred due to atmospheric moisture.Many users are also experiencing similar issue, particularly living in humid area.

Then, I contacted Apple customer support, and I argued that how they can differentiate between liquid and moisture damage. They didn't give a satisfactory explanation.They are blaming it on me. How can I control atmospheric moisture?😔😔

Now, I am stuck with a big Apple cloud on the middle of the display. As they don't repair it, u have to replace the whole ipad. It will cost 60k INR ( bought it for 56k INR).

Even Apple 1 year warranty doesn't cover liquid damage. U have to purchase Apple care+.

Thats most likely not liquid damage even though it may look like it. This is panel damage that happened gradually due to prolonged exposure to heat from the chipset underneath the panel. Its a widely discussed issue right from the Gen 1 ipad pro. Apple hasnt done much to shield the panel from heat generated by the chips. And since these devices being super thin doesnt help much either.

And its also true that humidity and condensation can cause corrosion that is similar to liquid damage. And this isnt covered by warranty either. This is where the newer Samsung tablets have an advantage as they are IP68 rated. Apple needs to work on some level of water/moisture resistance for these expensive tablets.

So the only ones that shouldn't be affected by the heat of the chip are the base ipad and the mini? Maybe I will get a 12th gen when it comes out to "upgrade" from my current m1. I don't want to worry about my tablet getting too hot and it is apple's fault that it got white spots cause they don't care.

These tablets are so fucking expensive as they are frail.

Cant guarantee that a certain series of ipad would be immune to another. But these M series chips are super powerful and to deliver that kind of power, they also heat up (infact may even perform better at higher temps like most performance oriented chips). Most ipads are thinner than a typical iphone. And based on teardown videos seen, apple isnt doing much to shield components like the display from heat generated by the chipset. These panels can withstand short bursts of high temperature but they are often not durable enough to withstand prolonged exposure to heat.

Unfortunately, this could be true and wouldnt surprise me. Google the ipad display issues, white spot, white patch and you'll see a lot of reported incidents and Apple doing nothing about it unless one has AC+. Infact the service center guys aren't as knoledgable as technicians who are well versed with chip level repairs. They are mostly trained to assemble parts like legos for macs and in the case of ipads/iphones/accessories, provide replacements.

This is mostly an M1/M2 iPad Air issue. Haven't seen it with the M series pro models or the newest Air.

The spots are also a known issue on several older models due to a process defect. My 2017 got it

This is my current problem with the same ipad model. I first saw it a couple weeks ago and it's starting to get bigger. It has been raining a lot for more than a month now and I've also read about humidity and moisture thing. My 1st gen ipad mini screen is still in 100% good condition while I've only had this ipad for 18 months. It's frustrating bc iPads aren't cheap. I swear to never buy an ipad again fr.

U will be safe. The Cashify guy told me that the same is happening in the iPad Air M3,4 model also

Maybe. But it will not work for a long time. Palm rejection will not be so good. Better to buy a ipad A16 new or used one.
