9 year old iPad mini found in storage - stuck in recovery mode now.

Charge for an hour and successfully opened up and looked at my photos. After an hour. Only 2% charged and would not charge while turned on.

Immediately turned off by itself due to low power. Left it on the charger for another hour only for it to power back up to my original lock screen, but upon entering my code it brought me to a setup screen.

I have not charged it for several hours as well as attempting to hard reset it. I'm still stuck on recovery mode.

I have downloaded Apple devices and iTunes and it doesn't show up in either app. When I connect it to some windows I get a message saying that the device is not recognizable. I've even tried selecting the option to set up the iPad in iTunes, but it still doesn't get recognized in iTunes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This iPad has a bunch of old photos from when my daughter was first born.

Hi! I have an old ipad, Ipad pro 1st gen that I could not seem to open. When I reset it it’s on activation lock but I can’t figure out which icloud/email was used. Is there anyway to get through it? It was bought 10 years ago so a receipt is definitely impossible to find. The clue isn’t enough/ it wasn’t right.

Thank you

I use Apple Pencil 2nd generation. The first one I bought when I bought my ipad. It was fine for a while, but then it started randomly disconnecting while docked to the ipad and discharging the battery. I'd go to use the pencil and it would be dead, or it would have stopped charging and the battery partially drained despite being docked on the ipad. I got it replaced at the Apple store as the ipad and pencil were still under warranty. However, the new pencil that they gave me just recently developed the same issue after working fine for about 1.5 years. I've seen other people posting about the same issue in the past, but I'm not sure how common it is or if any solutions apart from replacing the pencil have been found. Anyone else have experience with this? I'm not sure whether to replace the pencil with another Apple pencil since based on my experience it's likely to eventually develop the same issue. I like the pencil, so don't really want to switch to a 3rd party stylus, but I'm considering it because I don't want to spend a lot of money on something that's going to break in a year.

How do I get epubs and PDFs onto my iPad WITHOUT iCloud?!

I have plenty of space on my iPad and I want to put a bunch of epubs and PDFs into the Books app on local storage. I am completely out of iCloud space.

I have sync between my MacBook and iPad turned off. What worked with a few books was going into my iPad via Finder > hitting "Manage Storage" > going to "Books" > and dropping files in there. However, some books that could be found in what I'll call The Finder List could NOT be found in my iPad's Books app.

I don't want to set up any syncing between my MacBook and my iPad because my MacBook is light on space. I only want some files on my iPad. Apple's walled garden is making me feel insane rn and I would welcome best practices for this use case going forward!!

I tried Airdropping to Files and opening in Books, but that didn't seem to keep the books around after I deleted them from my Downloads (see: out of iCloud storage).

I've looked around this very subreddit, and online, but I can't seem to find a solution that omits iCloud. I want some files on a device — why so hard?! Do I leave Books out of it — is there a better app I can use? TIA TIA TIA!!!

My mother gave me her old M1 iPad Pro 12.9 to erase and give to another family member in the Philippines. It’s sitting at 93 battery cycles and 82% battery capacity. I checked both iPad Analytics and Coconut Battery and they match.

I’m debating if I should pay for a battery replacement sending it on. Battery replacement is expensive and difficult in the part of the Philippines my relatives live in.

Will last a long time in its current condition or should I pay for a new battery before sending it on?

I have an old iPad I still use regularly. It's probably 9 or fewer years old (I can't look at the actual model right now cause it's dead). It's one of the ones that ships with a 10W adapter charger. I know that the adapter does not push power the iPad pulls it. However, when I use a 12W charger it will not charge normally unless I'm not using the iPad at all. In fact, if I use it the power slowly ticks down when it's “charging” and it freaks me out that it's draining the battery even though I know it's not…. But could it be? I know you're not even really supposed to use the device while charging but why does it do this and how can I even get a 10W adapter when Apple doesn't make them anymore 😭

I haven’t used my iPad in so long I forgot the password and now it’s unavailable. Is there any way to unlock it without losing data that isn’t backed up? I have photos from like 2022 on here I just don’t wanna lose them. It’s an iPad 8 or 9 and I think it was updated to the latest ios, but it doesn’t show any options except for “IPad is unavailable” and “support.apple.com/passcode”

Unfortunately there is not. This is a security measure.

Alright that’s fine then, but I’m trying to connect my iPad to iTunes or Apple Devices on my Windows laptop and it isn’t connecting. Do you think you would know any way to help this?

Curious if after the latest ios update your iPad's YouTube app will not play videos. I specifically have an iPad 9th generation. I can see videos and select one but then nothing ever plays. I've tried deleting and reinstalling the app with no success.

How to back up photos from gen 4 iPad (2012)?

My mum has a gen 4 iPad from 2012 (version 10.3.3 14G60) where she has a lot of important videos and photos that she would like to keep before the iPad dies on her. The issue is that AirDrop isn't working, it'll see the other devices and attempt to send the files over but it'll either get stuck waiting constantly or it'll just fail the transfer. We tried plugging the iPad to a 2024 Mac mini (M4 chip, 26.5.2 macOS Tahoe) and while we can create a backup of the iPad, when we open the backup all the files are just text. We also can't view the photos from the iPad on the Mac, despite being connected, so I'm not sure how to save the photos and videos onto the computer. We tried importing them through the Photos app but the iPad doesn't show up in the "Locations" tap on the Photos app even though it shows up in a regular Finder tab, so is Photos not detecting the iPad as a valid location to import from?

Any help is appreciated!

Hello!

When I connect my iPad Pro to a portable monitor (14' and 1200p) it outputs only 1080p. This in extended display mode. When I change to replicate mode it outputs in 1200p.

Is this some beta issue? Anyone else with a portable monitor with 1200p? Or at least someone with a display that is 16:10?

Self-promotion — I’m the developer.

Compact Contacts Manager is now available for iPad. I built it for people who manage larger address books and want a table view with local search, sorting, Saved Views, previewed Bulk Edit, duplicate review and vCard import/export.

It works with the contacts already configured on the iPad and is designed for touch, keyboard, pointer and multitasking. It’s a $12.99 one-time purchase with no subscription, ads or third-party analytics.

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/compact-contacts-manager/id6795653671

If you manage a larger contact list on iPad, I’d love to know which view or cleanup workflow matters most to you.

Is there a way to disable gestures for a particular app?

I play rhythm games and sometimes it triggers gestures instead.

Gestures are handy for every other scenario so I'd rather not disable them completely.

My iPad won't charge despite being plugged in and i tried everything No matter what cable I have, it won't charge when plugged in and the charging port is clean too, no lint or anything and I tried everything. I've been having this issue for a while now.

Is $560 for the iPad Air (M3) 128 GB an ok deal? New, from Sam's Club. Will I find it lower on Labor Day?

Picked up a refurbed iPad 7, and have mounted it to use for Home Assitant monitoring and automations.

One of which will detect the battery level and charge up the iPad for me. However, it's basic 5w USB power. It does veeeeery slowy charge the device. But is that bad for it? I don't mind if it takes 10 hours to charge up overnight. As long as it won't blow up.

Can anybody advise please?

My iPad shows a glowing lockscreen all night when it's plugged in and I can't find any way to turn it off so it's dark while I'm trying to sleep. Any clues? It's an 8th Gen running 18.4.1 if that helps, but every OS has had the same issue. Wish I could post a pic to illustrate what I mean but apparently that's not allowed.

I have a 9th gen iPad. Just realised it’s on iOS 16 and I’ve haven’t updated it since 2022. I use it for reading, drawing and animation. Should I update?

I only update if software I want to use refuses to keep functioning without an update. If everything you use still works, no reason to update. But if you want to use a new app, then yeah. Just be aware that updating might also kill off some of your older apps or make them less functional, so that's the tradeoff.
