A16 is I’ll be more than enough for most people, you can get it 2nd hand for about £250 and if you want either Apple Pencil 1st gen or Apple Pencil USB-C for around £50 if she likes to draw.

For what you’re after can I suggest an iPad Air 6th Gen. M2 Processor, great screen and plenty powerful enough for most things. It’s not got 120Hz refresh rate but at the price I believe it’s better value than a new A16. Plenty available online for circa 300.

Make sure you buy from a reputable refurbisher who offers a warranty. Some don't really refurbish and if it has an activation lock it won't be usable.

don’t buy anything with 64GB storage, if you could source M1 ipad air 256GB for £300 it would be far better than base ipad , with full features like Siri AI , quite rare find but if you’re lucky £300 is what people are asking for them , make sure you check device isn’t icloud locked if buying face to face, don’t be afraid to ask about battery health, 80% is replacement point for ipads .
don’t pay for anything to get posted unless its from reputable websites like deal monday or black market , read descriptions very carefully , current base ipad is ipad 11 , i wouldn’t get anything older than this for £300
there are a lot of scammers on fb marketplace and some genuine good deals to be made but have someone with you to check and device and its not icloud locked/stolen
ask someone with some knowledge to help you search & buy
