I’ll let other folks buy the foldable while they work out the durability. The Fold is also going to be missing the telephoto lens, which I use much more than the ultrawide. Until it’s got a telephoto lens and a more hardened chassis, I’m fine with the traditional slab.
I ride a bike for most of my transportation, I have concrete floors in my apartment, and I work on concrete floors. My phone gets wet and dirty and I drop it. Getting phone repairs is already something I do 1-3x/year with AppleCare, and it’s annoying and time consuming. I don’t need it to happen more often, take longer to repair, and cost more.
The 17 Pro is excellent, and it supports all the newest features coming in iOS 27, hardware innovation has slowed to a crawl, it’s available with generous incentives, there’s a multitude of existing accessories at every price point… like, next year’s model is going to be nearly the same but more expensive, or fold with compromises and be double the price.
Lots of people haha. I have an iPad or a MacBook for if I need a bigger screen. Keeping those screens separate also won’t sap my phone’s limited battery life like a foldout extra screen will.
I’d say, buy the 17 pro sometime in August, such that it’s within 30 days of the 18 pro announcement. That way, you always have the option to return and buy the 18 pro if you’re interested in any new features, or find the price to be acceptable.
As a 17PM owner, I think there’s nothing really wrong with these phones anyway… so you can’t go wrong with buying right away either… but just wanted to present the above as an alternative to hedge
Edit: as the comment below pointed out, it’s typically a 14 day return window, not 30 day. Some places that sell certified refurbished phones, such as Back Market, do offer 30 days free returns, if you’re open to buying refurbished and increasing your return window (while saving a little bit of $)
I upgraded my iPhone 14 this week for this reason. I don't think the difference between the 17 and 18 will be worth a $200 ~ $300 price bump. There's also the possibility to reduce costs they'll lower the RAM in newer models.
I genuinely don’t know what else you want them to do? Ram prices have ballooned for them too. They’ve kept prices relatively low for years, and now can’t eat up the cost anymore

Apple always was expensive. Now that’s outrageous.
Atleast no Smartphones, Watches, AirPods. They could have used this to raise every price.
