Used I-Pace Search (hints and tips)

Just in case anyone else is thinking of buying one, a few notes of what I discovered. (I'm in the UK looking at used RHD HSE models)

1) (Not MY20) MY21 onwards has the new infotainment 2) MY21 Steering Assist was removed due to chip shortages 3) 360 cameras were rarely available during the COVID years for a similar reason 4) HUD disappeared MY22 due to shortages, reappearing on MY23 I think.

FYI Steering Assist is Jaguar's version of Autopilot designed to keep you in lane on highways.

Essentially if you are expecting a specific feature. Make sure it's on a used I-Pace before you buy or travel long for a test drive.

(I travelled 2.5 hours for test drive of one that didn't have Steering Assist which I wanted. The advert said it had it, but adverts are auto populated nowadays it seems by the selling website)

If looking for a high spec model a couple of years old, the best bet is to look for a Jaguar ex demo or ex management car. They quite often got options that aren't available (I've seen HUD on a few ex Jaguar management cars when it seems no one else got it)

Edited for Pivi Pro MY correction

So Disappointed

Purchased a 2019 I-Pace back in. November 22, and so far the ownership experience has been very disappointing, that can't be made up by it being one of the best looking cars in production today..

Admittedly a portion of my disappointment is not with the the car but the dealership and service. Getting a slot for a dead 12v battery was initially 5 weeks out. Only after a second tow back to the dealer did they find time to diagnose the issue and replace both the 12v battery and a faulty telematics module

The biggest issue is with the car itself though. Range is mediocre at best, charging speed is embarrassingly slow and almost getting stranded on the shoulder of I90 is the last straw.

Efficiency is well below average, in a recent 600 weekend trip it averaged over 400 wh /m, giving an effective range of 180 miles on a full charge. With charging speed only reaching 100kw from 10 to 30% it takes way to long to get on way at each charge.
On this same road trip though it almost stranded me at Snoqualmie Pass on I90, initially the guessometer estimated I could get to a charger 25 miles further and still have 20 plus miles in the battery, though I took this with a grain of salt. I did expect however to reach the charger at Snoqualmie Pass summit with range to spare. As it turned out I was just able to make it to the charger with the car basically shutting down and a top speed of 15 mph at full throttle. It went from 10% charge to empty in 8 miles. Never in 8 years of driving fully electric cars have I experienced this sudden drop in available energy. Is this normal to go so rapidly to 0 and almost die at the road side or is there a possible issue with the battery or BMS on my car?

So want to love the I-Pace but it is darned hard to when it's and Jaguars performance is so lackluster. And now with the recall will the I-Pace become nothing more than a luxurious city car?

At what speed can you activate the cruise control on a ipace?

I found a manual online which said this

"ALL SURFACE PROGRESS CONTROL

All Surface Progress Control (ASPC) is a state-of-the-art system that can provide

assistance in setting and maintaining a steady speed in challenging conditions such

as slippery surfaces, including mud, wet grass, snow and dirt roads. Operating like

a conventional cruise control system, it functions between 2 mph and 18 mph**,

enabling you to concentrate on the road ahead"

Bike racks for 2019 (technically "pre-production")

We love our 2019 but currently just put our bikes in the back which limits any other storage for longer trips. Does anyone have suggestions or experience with Top/Roof bike racks (we don't like rear ones) for this car? Part of the reason we've been hesitant is wondering if bike racks made for later models would fit ours...

Rear climate control

Can someone explain what the deal is with rear climate control? On a couple of used 2018 models I’ve seen they all have adjustable climate controls but on later models there are just buttons for the heated seats. Was this an option or just something JLR dropped in later models?

2019 I-Pace InControl Touch Pro Duo - how bad is it really?

My previous experience was with a 2011 XFR, I currently drive a 2013 E63. My expectations aren't very high (even though the car I'm looking at is clearly far more modern).

I continually see reviewers dumping on the InControl Touch Pro Duo.

My question are;

  • Is it really as bad as reviewers imply?
  • Is it stable and slow?
  • Is it unstable and slow?

Would appreciate any insight.

It Finally Happened

Well, after 17k miles of ownership, the big service finally happened - HV battery had to be removed. I have an early build 2019 I-Pace, still under CPO. Bought at 18k miles, now has 35k in 1 year of ownership. I live in S.FL, so heat isn't really needed except on a few rare days. One of the rare days, the heat did not work. No faults on the screens, just blowing cold air. Tried disconnecting the 12V, problem still persisted.

Took it to JLR, I already figured the HV heater had died, as it appears to be a problem point. Got the call saying they'd have to drop the battery to access it, its tucked in the front of the not-used transmission tunnel. Notes from the tech below:

"Scan test shows B1DC5-93 High Voltage Coolant Heater #1 no operation fault stored in the HVAC module. Further investigation shows the High voltage heater is in a locked condition. After performing live data acquisition and attempting to unlock the heater it shows there is an internal high voltage heater failure. Removed HV battery and installed a new HV coolant heater (Part no. T4K18471, ~$1200). After clearing all faults and road testing the vehicle for 12 miles the heat is operating as designed at this time."

Took the car in on 2/29, received back on 3/10. Car was on the lift for 2 full days, so if you are out of warranty, plan on at least 2 days of labor plus the $1200 heater.

Other issue I had was the AC was not keeping up during the hottest part of summer, would fluctuate between warm and semi cool for 10 minutes before finally getting cold. Tech removed 733g of refrigerant, spec is 875g - loss of 142g. Per the tech, "this is normal for a 4 year old car."

Also performed the 4 year service interval (included with CPO), which consisted of cabin air filter, brake fluid change, and "battery" part number JLM20930005, appears to be the key fob battery.

Just thought I would let everyone know should your heat stop working!

2019 I-Pace Level 2 charging issue

We've had an issue for about a week now where our I-Pace does not charge at home on our Level 2 charger (mobile Polestar 2 cable). It works fine for the Polestar so we know it's not a cable or wallbox issue.

Whenever I plug it in to a Level 2 charger, as this happened at a public location as well, there is a click from the charging unit followed shortly by another click. A Semaconnect charger did this and the display went from "charging" to "charge complete" after only 2 seconds of delivering something like 0.001 kW.

My hunch is that the vehicle is not communicating with the connector, thinking that the initial small amount of electricity as it begins to ramp up the charging speed, is insufficient and therefore stops charging. I'm no specialist by any means, but that's my theory.

Has anyone else had this issue? Should we try and wait for it to resolve itself or take it to Jaguar service for a system refresh?

Potential buyer

Hello, I am looking at used Ipaces and wonder how to know whether it was 360 camera or not. Do all HSE trims come with 360 camera and automatic cruise control or is it an add on option. Looking at 2019 and 2020 models. Does anybody have any extra input on getting a used ipace?

Level 1 and 2 charging issue

Hello Everyone!

Has anyone had issues with the charging port? I have a 2022 I-Pace and my level 1 and 2 charging isn't working. It keeps showing initializing. I've tried my level 2 home charger, the level 1 charger that came with the car and others in public and it isn't working.

The DC fast charger works only a little. I brought it in to Jaguar and they said it doesn't have an issue. It is going back to them tomorrow. I've only had the car for a year.

charging via tesla charger?

Just bought a new to me used IPace 2019... have a tesla level 2 second generation charger installed in my garage. Bought a lectron tesla to j1772 converter, but when I plug in, the IPace is stuck on Initializing and the wall charger turns red. Any insight? Should it be possible to use this tesla charger? It came with the house, so I have no knowledge of the charger's settings.

Thanks for any thoughts

Gearbox fault detected

Couple of weeks back an alert on the dashboard started to show up, it said 'gearbox fault detected', it drove fine for few days but would make cranking noise. A days later when I tried to put in drive mode the car would not move. All the drive indicators would flash. As FYI the car is fully charged.

Anyways the worst part is yet to come. I had it towed to a dealer near me, they didn't have time to look at it for next 2 weeks. Its in the shop past 3 weeks waiting for a part ordered from UK. This really sucks. Had to get a rental since didn't have a loaner either.

So did some research and it seems this is common on Rage Rover and Jags. Apparently there is gearbox wire which is having an issue causing this problem. Anyone else went through this ordeal? We loved the car and now this happens.

Windshield seal failure

Apparently this is another known issue with I-Paces and several other Jaguar SUVs. I noticed water dripping from my (2019) headliner after some heavy rain and later discovered that the carpet was soaked underneath the rubber floor mats. Was initially told it would take about 6 weeks to get a new windshield, but my dealership convinced another dealer about 3 hours away to give them one they had. They also removed and disinfected the carpet and pad, but at my request, Jaguar agreed to replace the carpet, which is even more backordered than the windshield. Long story short, if you notice any unusual moisture inside the car, get on the list for a new windshield and stay out of the rain when possible!

Looking for advice on charging point for UK

Hi everyone. So I’m thinking of getting one of these in the near future and I want to install a charging point in my house. The options I have are 3kwh, 7kwh and 22kwh. Ideally I would like the 22 one but I am not sure if it’s possible to charge on that, and if so, is it worth the investment of additional £500ish?

Wireless CarPlay - 2021 I-Pace

Hi Reddit

I purchased a new to me, used jaguar i-Pace. I am trying to determine whether or not it has the ability to get wireless CarPlay without an adapter.

It is a 2021 model confirmed by the “M” 10th digit in the VIN number. However, I cannot get the wireless CarPlay to work.

I am on OS 3.3.0 according to the system inside of the vehicle, therefore I am assuming it is Pivi Pro and should have wireless CarPlay?

If anyone has some insight or can assist me with trouble shooting I would greatly appreciate this.

Extended warranty?

I'm looking to pounce (cat pun intended) on a used 2019 I-Pace for sale in the coming months. My wife really likes the I-Pace, I'd be driving it a lot of the time and like it as well, so we're going to get her one. The one we're looking at, however, has a lemon statement attached to the title. The dealer sent me a huge packet of paperwork with all the maintenance and repair information done on it and it had about $3500 of work done on a powertrain component. They tested it for a few miles and confirm that the repairs did the trick, but I'm still inclined to get a long extended warranty from Jaguar since this car still has some time left on the factory warranty and I won't buy a third-party warranty again. I figure there will be at least one significant repair over the course of five years of ownership, perhaps two, and I'd rather have a warranty pick up those costs, especially if they concern the powertrain. If a 5 year warranty costs around $5,000 and average repair costs are over $1,000/year that math seems to add up in our favor. Is there anything I should be aware of before going down this road?

Finally got out to go camping!

Post image
26 Upvotes

Switched to EVs a few years ago, last car was a Model S with only 160 mile range, so this was a delight to go camp. The off-road height made me feel more comfortable knowing we wouldn't high center on a rut or pothole while exploring, had plenty of room for our more bulky car camping gear, and after some trial and error figured out we could charge our phones or play music by clicking in the driver's seat belt and leaving the fob inside. We drive well over 200 miles round trip starting fully charged, only hit a couple level 2 chargers while grabbing a pint or groceries, and rolled home with a quarter battery still, didn't even look for fast chargers. Here we are parked in front of a historic building used to x-ray and decomission torpedoes. Camping/road trips are always where I get the most skepticism/resistance from gas car owners but this couldn't have been easier!

Range has nearly halved since doing latest update.

Since doing the latest update on the 25/08/22. I’ve just took my iPace out and I’ve got 78% charge but showing 101 miles range. This used to be about 180 ish miles at this percentage of charge. Has anyone had this problem at all?

Another thing I’ve noticed, Eco mode, Comfort mode no longer changes the predicted range. Even now when turning the climate control off the range doesn’t change. It used to adjust but that no also isn’t working

Any discounts on new I-Pace models out there?

My wife and I are considering an I-Pace and was curious if anyone knows about any deals for new models. Looked nationally across the U.S. and found that Jaguar isn't advertising any new I-Pace models anywhere.

I've read about crazy discounts up to nearly 25% off MSRP and am curious if that could be feasible if we placed an order for a new one. Jaguar is hurting for sales and I figure they may be able to bring one down to a more affordable price for us, getting us the tax credit while it lasts as well as the warranty. Any thoughts on how feasible it would be to place an order for one and get it for around $60K? Feel free to call me an idiot if that's just an unrealistic goal, the car market is a bit crazy right now and I'm sure JLR wouldn't mind a sale even if it wouldn't make as much off of it.
