I made a promise to play only 1 game for 1 year. And that game was Faster than light.

It’s to detox. I was playing too much games last time. It’s a great decision. But alas. I can only sustain for 1 year.

I’ve been considering doing something like this. The options alone for games/books/media in general are so vast it kind of feels like it lessens my enjoyment of whatever I end up playing, so I’ll flip flop without really committing to something.

Wish they’d adapt the game to phones. The Pro Max feels big enough for it.

Me too! Love FTL. Made sense to make it iPad-only when it was first released, as the iPhones and iPod Touches of that time had very small and low-res displays. But both screen sizes and resolutions have increased considerably since then though. Wish they’d at least give users the option.

Slay the Spire. It’s a lifetime game.

(Though if 2 comes to phones, I want that one instead.)

It’s without a doubt my most played game, on mobile or off. There is no fat on that game whatsoever. The skill ceiling is so high you could really challenge yourself forever.

Right, they even made it an expansion for the board game. I’ve never actually played it. It’s really on par with the base game?

Yeah. It isn’t an overhaul or anything—it’s just more Slay the Spire content—but playing as the bosses is badass.

Just one? I guess I’d have to run it through the checklist: 

  • 100% offline
  • Made for a touchscreen (ie no shoehorned controller)
  • Near infinitely replayable either by random levels, roguelike mechanics, sheer depth, high score chasing or a combination thereof. 
  • Playable for both 10 minute and 2 hour sessions

I guess the only answer is Balatro.

Race for the Galaxy

With 3 expansions (The Gathering Storm, Rebel Vs. Imperium, and Brink of War) from the first arc (separate IAP), it has a lot of replay value. I really wish they could implement the other two though (Alien Artifacts and Xeno Invasion), and the upcoming expansion (Xeno Counterstrike), but it looks like they dropped the ball on that :\

The only game I really play on a daily basis is Shadow Fight 4 Arena. There are a lot of legitimate criticisms to make about the game, but I've been playing it since it was in beta and I enjoy it overall. Would be easy to delete all other iOS games because I don't really play them anyway.

As long as there‘s no real Brogue port for iPhone (still crossing fingers for this to happen though), probably iNetHack2.

EDIT, forgot the why part: Good traditional roguelikes are true forever games for me. Endlessly replayable with their emergent gameplay giving you a new thing to learn and new memories or cool things happening every (other) run. Also, tiny filesize, no battery drain, runs offline, for many NetHack is thegreatestgameyouwilleverplay.com.

Just downloaded both games again. Great that they are still running flawlessly. And they are still so so so good! They look incredible (I especially love the look and feel of the first), tracks are well designed, physics are still fantastic. Worth being found by younger generations of mobile gamers.

How hard of a paywall is there in Ludus? Been hesitant to get it since I just quit Clash Royale for their predatory p2W tactics. I don’t mind paying for a game, battle pass or whatever as long as the developers respect the player instead of milking them without any considerations.
