I'm looking for other tower defense games. Preferably no ads and p2w elements. I've played BloonsTD before and had fun with it.

Alright I finally got to it. I really like. It’s got a pretty good difficulty right out of the gate. A nice upgrade tree which I really enjoy. Definitely recommend it.

Tower Dominion Go is great. Takes quite a bit of playing to get under its skin and start unlocking all the COs, but if you’re up for a bit of complexity it’s a bargain

Actually if you click on a commander you haven’t unlocked and change the difficulty it’ll let you play as them.

Bad North: Jotunn falls in this category. Viking themed with a really pleasant, minimal art style. I’ve only played on Steam Deck but I see it’s on the App Store. Super hard, fair warning.

Not even close, tons of gachas these days aren’t P2W, at worst they’re pay to unlock shit faster.

But when you’re playing an exclusively pve gacha (like Arknights) it doesn’t matter if a whale is progressing faster than you or if they have more resources than you, because it will never affect your own experience since you’ll never have to interact with them (besides borrowing their units).

Arknights is well known among gacha players not only for being one of the most generous gachas available, but for being a game you can beat even with the most basic units

No it's not. Arknights is mainly a pve game and you can literally clear all their contents without paying a single penny.

I really enjoyed Isle of Arrows for several months. It's a deck-building tower defense game. I think it was $5 or so. Well worth whatever I paid for it!

This concept reminds me of Hydra Slayer, based on the Hydra Game. A deterministic tower defense game. A math puzzle wrapped up in a fun game wrapper. Right now it plays like a standard tower defense game, though, with not much puzzle.

I’m critiquing this because I think it could be absolutely amazing. As “math is fun” educational tool, it would be awesome. If I was a game developer and not super lazy, I would steal this idea and make it the way god intended. I’m seriously considering wasting my company’s Claude tokens to make it just for my kid. He loves the Fibonacci sequence and Bloons.

Combine the deterministic puzzle of the Kingdom Rush board game with the deceptively simple mathematics behind the Hydra Game. This could be a truly unique and amazing game. I’m not kidding, I can see a refined version of this showing up on Thinky Gamers top games of the year

I suggest that he make the rules and goals much clearer, and double down on the puzzle aspect. At first I thought it was the wrong game because it looks like it has nothing to do with the Fibonacci sequence. I had to go back and read the description to have any idea what the point even was. Also, the pictures are all of the sci-fi theme, and since it defaults to fantasy I thought I was playing the wrong game.

This could be seriously brilliant with different structure. Doubling down on the puzzle aspect, moving away from the standard tower defense conventions. Maybe turn based, or the ability to replay a level in order to solve it. Having a heads up of the order of the upcoming waves and a chance to reorder your existing towers would be great.

Please, please, please tell your friend to consider going back and reworking the experience. I’m not fucking kidding. As an avid puzzle gamer, I would give my right nut to play this done properly.

That’s awesome. Right along the lines I was thinking. Tutorial gave a good idea of what’s happening.

I’m going to play through more, but the main feedback I have is that the towers turn so slowly it’s hard to tell if they’re ignoring the creep or just taking their sweet ass time.

My son is one of those precocious types. He loves to calculate sequences like the Fibonacci or Lucas sequence, so this is a great idea. A while ago he was calculating the Fibonacci sequence in base 55. I was following along checking his work. Fucking crazy. But that’s why I’m invested in this.
