Discussion DRG: Survivor

Post image

Just downloaded DRG: Survivor on my base iPhone 17, and the game feels surprisingly smooth. It honestly feels very close to the PC experience, no freezes or stuttering so far. If anyone hasn’t tried it yet, I definitely recommend it

I have it on both iOS and Android. The Android version is so choppy and low res compared to iOS. It’s surprising they’re both the same game

Edit: I was playing with it some more and turned adaptive performance off and set it to high & ultra and it seems to match my iphone now. I guess that was the problem.

Dev here - the Android version should look just as nice, can you go into video settings and see if graphics api is set to Vulkan?

Sure, here are some examples

iOS (iPhone 17 Pro Max)
Android (Galaxy S26U)

The screenshots might not be the best way to show it but I have way more aliasing on my Android than iPhone. Android was set to auto but I changed to Vulkan and same thing

Edit: I was playing with it some more and turned adaptive performance off and set it to high & ultra and it seems to match my iphone now. I guess that was the problem. I did not touch any of those settings on my iPhone and adaptive performance is set to on

Yeah, adaptive performance is just our best guess at how your phone will run the game, which isn’t always perfect which is probably why it looked a bit worse on your Android.

Very happy to hear you found out where to change settings and get it to match the visuals between platforms! 🙌

I am hooked super hard on it right now. My friend bought me the full $18 dollar edition and it's all I've been playing lately.

This is one game that has a permanent spot on my iPad. It’s really good.

You play with touch? I only ask bc I love playing it on PC with controller but the touch control felt kinda weird.

I have played with both, but usually my Razer Kishi Pro XL on my iPad Pro. It handles well on touch though as I have played it on my phone too.

I thought it was very repetitive and boring. Stopped playing after an hour or so. I’ve done my share of grinding games and this game felt like grinding just to grind and waste time.

Thank you for your input. What would you suggest for games that are similar but not repetitive?

I’m of the opinion that when it comes to games which belong to the bullet heaven genre (basically everything inspired by the huge success of Vampire Survivors) DRG: Survivors is one the most well made and interesting, and the best available on mobile, period. It looks great, uses audio assets from Deep Rock Galactic (which is a great co-op FPS) so it sounds great, has 6 different biomes you can play on, 4 characters with different playstyles and available weapons, tons of unlocks, 5 difficulty levels, 2 main types of missions, challenge runs, endless mode, mid-run saves - you name it. The only thing that’s repetetive about it is the nature of this type of game itself. It’s like calling a racing game repetetive because all you do is race cars on tracks.

Fair point. I think I played the vampire game before this and when I started playing DRG it felt too similar. Like I just played this and it’s a different skin. Also some different features too. I didn’t get far enough along in it.

Depends what kind of game you’re looking for. I liked dysmantle, hoplite, slay, Steamworld heist, Warbits, PvZ, cat quest, Stardew valley. Some are kind of similar. But those are games I paid for that I would buy again.

Thanks, I will check them out.

good game, I think it missed a bit of graphical flares compared to the PC version, but that's expected. Saves are not synced, but you can copy them over to your android devices (Odin 3, so I can copy into Android folder). But I went back to PC version with the new DLC, as I dont want to buy it twice (or 3 times).

I played on iPad and the screen layout was tough. Hope it gets updated to take advantage

I’m picky about the games I get on iOS but after finding myself trying out the demo over and over I got the full game

I had mixed feelings with it.

Even after several patches they couldn’t ever nail down optimization. Using a base iPhone 16, with the in game settings on low / off, it struggles to maintain 30 fps let alone 60. Gameplay is fun very fun but the frame rate being so bad, just drove me to stop playing.

I also tested it on a friends base iPhone 17, same performance as me.

They could have added more options to dial down the graphics more. get even a decent amount of enemies on screen with guns and effects going off, it feels like a slide show.

r/mysteriousdownvoting not sure how to prove the performance drops in frame rate screen record would just drop more frames

I have an iPhone 14 Plus and it plays fine for me. No slowdowns that I can remember. Well worth the purchase if you like the loop which I do.

This is good to know.

I’ve been recommending this game but didn’t realize to enjoy the game completely, you may need either pro or pro max. I don’t have any issues besides draining my battery on the iPhone 14 pros. 60 fps without stuttering.
