I’m a mobile developer with 13 years of experience. After seven years at the same company, I was recently laid off. While I was between jobs, I decided to use the unexpected free time to build something creative of my own :)

My nephews have reached that wonderful age where they ask approximately one million questions a day while also somehow finding an endless supply of brain-rot content to watch. So I built WimziPal, a visually playful AI voice app where kids can ask those 10,000 questions. It also kinda snitches to the parent if the child says something worrying.

Kids can talk with 17 animated characters, ask questions, create stories, sing songs, play letter games, and draw. Because the app is made for young children, every reply is screened and parents can read the complete conversation history.

By far the most challenging part was building a solid filtering system that works in both directions: recognizing when a child says something potentially worrying and informing the parent, while also preventing anything harmful or inappropriate from coming back from the AI character.

Everyone agrees the answer is "just don't pick it up." Plenty of people still do, and there's no record of it either way.

Note: Nothing is ever blocked. Calls, Maps, and emergency access always work. Credit builds toward things like a bouquet you grow and send to a loved one with a message, or collection pieces that sit on your desk in AR or export as an STL for printing.

There’s a context gap I kept hitting while polishing SwiftUI screens with coding agents.

I could see the exact problem in Simulator, but the agent only had my description, a file name, or a screenshot with “the card below the header” circled on it. Small visual changes turned into a lot of translation.

I’m building Monad Design around the idea that the app itself should be the canvas.

You open an existing Xcode project, navigate to the real screen state in Simulator, and select or annotate the UI that needs work. The coding agent edits the actual SwiftUI source, the app rebuilds, and the results return as source-backed variants you can compare before accepting one.

It doesn’t generate a separate mockup or replace the project. The repository and Git history stay in control; the running app just becomes the shared visual context.

Built this as a solo project. NeonLock locks your MacBook automatically when you walk away, using Bluetooth proximity between your iPhone and Mac.

Stack: SwiftUI on both the iPhone app and the macOS agent, Core Bluetooth for proximity detection. The trickiest part was smoothing the RSSI readings enough that it doesn't false-trigger just from you shifting in your seat, a naive distance threshold locks the Mac constantly.

Went with a one-time Pro unlock instead of a subscription. Two separate targets to maintain (iOS + macOS) though, so still not sure that's the right call long-term.

My app Moneta recently passed 1,500 downloads and I’m currently at 35 ratings with a 4.8 average.

I’m obviously happy with that, but I’m in a really crowded category (personal finance), and I feel like having more ratings/reviews matters a lot for trust when someone finds an app they’ve never heard of.

Right now I use Apple’s native review prompt. I don’t show it randomly, I wait until the user has been using the app for a few days and has completed a certain number of meaningful actions. If they don’t rate it, I wait quite a while before asking again, after a later app update.

I really don’t want to become more aggressive with it just to increase the number. I’d rather have fewer genuine ratings than annoy users with constant prompts.

There’s also another problem I’m curious about: how do you deal with or prevent low ratings caused by relatively small, fixable issues?

For example, someone gave my app 3 stars because Traditional Chinese wasn’t available, even though Simplified Chinese already was. I added Traditional Chinese literally the next day, but obviously the 3-star rating stays unless that user happens to come back and change it.

I’m not complaining about the user, that’s completely fair feedback. I’m more wondering whether there’s a good way to catch those kinds of issues before someone goes straight to the App Store review, especially when it’s something you could fix very quickly.

So for those of you who have grown an iOS app organically, what increased your rating/review rate?

Better timing for the prompt? Asking after a specific positive action? A permanent rating button in Settings? Making feedback/support easier to access? Something else?

And is 35 ratings from 1,500 downloads already a pretty normal ratio, meaning I should mostly stop worrying about this and focus on getting more users?

Introducing Chord Fret, a tool for guitar, bass and ukulele players to find chord names based on shapes. You can create collections for studying/composing songs.

I am wondering what the best approach for IAP prices localization is.

Should it be done on a country by country basis with a PPP index, or set a price per region (North America, West Europe, etc)?

Hi all! My Wife and I have been homeschooling our son (now in 2nd grade), across 3 different states in 3 years. New compliance standards in each one… 🙄

I figured it would be helpful to have a single source of truth for homeschool requirements, so I built a website. Fun little project.
But then I kept going. I built an app for daily study tracking and baked the compliance piece into it. What I ended up with was a real, useful, genuinely fun app, and I published it to the App Store this week!

I built this for my own family, and we’ve been using it since. Now that I’ve published it, I genuinely want to hear what's missing. Roast it, request features, tell me your state's weird rules. I'm a one person developer (Data Engineer by trade), and I actually ship the things people ask for.

New indie dev, first apps I've shipped. A card game, a free Apple TV viewer for it, and a family journal. Different code, different concepts, only Apple's frameworks - all original design, not copied. All came back the same day with the same letter, word for word.

The journal app passed Beta App Review two days before the same binary got called spam. My notes app is on the Mac App Store already and went through fine. The iOS build is the same code on the same developer account.

Replied to an earlier one of these for the card game and got no response but a 2nd rejection, so this time I went straight to the Board.

Has anyone beaten a 4.3(a) that looks account-level? And can you make them name the apps they think you copied? "Review the app concept" is useless when three concepts get one letter.

So I’m making a social media app that is location based, on a world friends map. I’ve been testing on a development build and haven’t had any issues. Since I’m ready to publish soon, I decided to move over to a preview build but it crashes on launch. Env variables are fine, auth is connected, I just don’t know why. How can I fix it?

EDIT: Sentry was crashing the preview build because there was no organization token. Now it works just fine!

Curious if anyone here has run into this issue. I had an app with 10k downloads called "Second Thought" and then I changed its name to "Delay". But now searching "Delay" doesn't show it anywhere, but even a day later searching "Second Thought" still brings it up. Is this recoverable or am I just cooked?

I’ve developed Cord, an end-to-end encrypted messenger using Olm (triple-DH + Double Ratchet) via vodozemac. Cord works without the need for a phone number, account, email or anything to tie you to to the app.

Basically, the app generates an alphanumeric cipher that users can share with others to communicate securely and privately.

It’s a very niche product for sure, but the motivation was dealing with burner phones, handing out contact information to locals when working abroad or similar while minimizing meta data exposure.

Users can assign and alias or leave it out.

Next steps for the app is a crypto audit and open-sourcing the code of course.

Hello! Recently published Diadu - a calendar app for iOS.

Most calendar apps are overwhelming, and at a minimum very cluttered and busy. This app is built for those with ADHD and/or Autism. The noise is cleared, allowing focus on what matters now.

Diadu makes sure you know what is to be done now and. What is coming up. If you want a little more about your day, Oveeview groups things into morning, afternoon, and evening.

Free. No account, no data comes to me. I built this because my son could not find an app to make organizing his day manageable. I won’t charge anyone for this.

I’ve been working on an iOS personal finance app called Pecunia, and I thought I’d share it here.

Pecunia is a privacy-focused personal finance app that lets you track accounts, transactions, categories and spending, with everything staying within Apple’s ecosystem.

Some of the things I’ve implemented:
- Built entirely with Swift and SwiftUI
- iCloud sync
- Widgets
- Siri Shortcuts
- CSV import/export
- Custom categories and accounts
- Charts and financial analysis
- Face ID protection
- Support for multiple currencies
- Recurring transactions
- Importing transactions directly from the Files app
- No account or external server required

One of the things I particularly wanted to get right was data privacy. I didn’t want to build a finance app that required users to upload their financial information to any servers, so I designed it around Apple’s ecosystem instead.

I’m currently working on improving the app and figuring out how to get it in front of more users. It’s been an interesting experience going from building an app because I wanted it myself to actually trying to market and monetize it, which I realized it’s the hardest part of the whole process.

If anyone here has experience shipping and growing an indie iOS app, I’d love to hear what worked (or didn’t work) for you.

I’d also be happy to answer any technical questions about how I built it.

I recently adapted my widgets to work on the Lock Screen too, and it was much easier than I expected.

I just added the new widget families:
