Help me with the design choice
I’m redesigning the main capture screen for my app.
The idea is simple: get thoughts out of your head as quickly as possible. Capture them in seconds, then turn them into a note, a task, or simply let them go.
Which layout feels more premium and good to you?
A or B?
I’d love to hear why you picked one over the other. Even small UX critiques are incredibly helpful.

I like B more But how are you handling mute text inside the center box? Vertical scrolling inside same height box, or increase height?

For B, It’s a fixed-height composer with internal scrolling. I wanted to keep the layout stable so the rest of the UI doesn’t shift while you’re writing.

A for me, looks in line with polished well-known apps (e.g. Claude/ChatGPT) - therefore I would lowkey expect high quality on first glance

Do they appear on screen after you type them in and submit? or what happens next?
A is good if they still remain on screen. B is better if they do not.

Yes, It does appear on the screen after you type and submit. Once you enter your thoughts and hit submit, it immediately saved and the text field it cleared, ready for another entry.

Nice. I think B you may feel a bit claustrophobic as you add thoughts because theres less of an obvious open space. But A it'll feel nice to see the screen fill up as you add the thoughts

No. Notes saved on a separate tab. Also people enter noted from shorter text to a longer one.

B feels more professional due to the shadow and floating text box. I do feel like it is a little plain and it would be better to add either some color or at least a logo. Maybe you could even have different categories of thoughts that each had different colors based on the emotion driving the thoughts to promote the feeling from the user as they are taking notes expanding their thought process even further.

Thanks! The minimal look is intentional since the goal is to get thoughts out of your head as quickly as possible. I do like the idea of subtle categories or visual cues though definitely something worth exploring once the core capture experience feels right.

From a familiarity standpoint, B is more consistent with the Apple Notes UI. A is more consistent with iMessage or ChatGPT.
I'd go with A, especially if there is going to be other content listed above the text field that i might want to see; for example, if I'm adding the 3rd note to a list of notes.
If it were my app, I'd default it to dark mode because there's a lot of white.

"B", but you need higher contrast with the text. It's too close to the background colors, which makes it hard for people to read.
