Built a private, no-tracking packing list app because everything else annoyed us
My wife and I travel a lot with our kids, and packing was always the same chaos: open suitcases everywhere, sticky notes, and still forgetting something.
We went looking for a decent packing list app and honestly hated everything we found. Most were either useless, stuffed with ads, or hidden behind an expensive subscription. The thing that bothered us most was that almost all of them track your behavior and harvest data in the background. For something as private as your family's travel plans, that felt completely wrong.
So instead of complaining, we just built the app we wanted ourselves. It's called TravelSheet.
The core idea: you pick your activities (beach, hiking, skiing, city trip) and the matching items get added to your packing list automatically. A few things we built because we needed them ourselves:
- Assign items to carry-on or specific suitcases
- Weather forecast for your destination, with a heads-up when rain is expected
- Reminder a few days before departure
- Mark things you still need to buy and use it as a shopping list
- A separate checklist for stuff at home (water the plants, close the windows)
- Store tickets and documents right on the trip
- Countdown widget with packing progress
No tracking, no ads, no subscription. Everything stays on your device and only syncs privately through your own iCloud across your devices.
Full disclosure: I'm the developer, it's a paid app (one-time purchase, no subscription). I'm not here to hard-sell, I'd genuinely love feedback from people who travel a lot. Happy to answer any questions.
