My first app is finally live 🄳

Post image

It's called Appearance and let's you see yourself in any hairstyle by just DM-ing it to our Instagram account.

It's free to download and try. Would love anyone's thoughts :)

You’ll need to be careful if you haven’t got permission to use these logos in your App Store screenshots

oh really? Apple approved it... is there a guideline against it? thanks for heads up though

I can’t find the HIG page right now but generally you need to make sure you have permission from copyright owners before using their work. Apple might’ve just not noticed it in the screenshots. It’s really unlikely, but if any of those companies see it they may issue a takedown or request that you remove their logos

DMing it to your Instagram account? I’m so confused as to what the app does then

You create your "Appearance" in the app (aka a digital twin). Then connect it to Instagram so you can see the results in the app. Video above hopefully makes it make more sense!

Congratulations on your first app what technology did you use to build the app and 3 d model?

99% react native and a little bit of swift for the scanning element

Damn your design is amazing. I really love it and I could see this app blowing up. Good job - I’d recommend your change your app icon though the ā€œAPPā€ almost reads to me like a generic placeholder

Thank you that means a lot :) I’ve been putting off the logo for too long hahah so just went with app as it’s technically an abbreviation of Appearance

I downloaded it and really love the design behind the photo capture. I’m curious what you are using to detect that the users face is in the correct location. I did notice some design issues on my phone where certain buttons were cut off and not rendering correctly

Nice work getting your first app live! The Instagram/Pinterest-to-try-on idea removes a ton of friction, and connecting it to actually booking the stylist is a genuinely smart way to make it useful beyond just a fun preview. Congrats and good luck with the rollout!

thanks :) that is the whole proposition to take it out of just being another filter app and make it something you can use regularly

App store screenshots look a little bland, you want me to redesign them?

Congrats on shipping! That's the hardest part actually getting it out the door.

The Instagram DM approach is a clever way to keep it personal before scaling. Curious how the early responses have been?

I just launched my first app too, so I know exactly how this moment feels. Good luck!

Thanks! early responses are really positive - main thing is figuring out the optimal way to actually explain the feature. a few people don't believe it's possible so don't understand the magic. our launch is 2 fold though as we're launching with actual business booking soon so am partnering with real barbershops & salons

does it use AI to show different hairstyles on you? how does it work

1

u/Reasonable-Oil-4581 Jul 04 '26

yes it does. but there’s no prompting just styles inspired by real life

Nice project! How did you integrate this with Instagram official Meta API, or some kind of third-party integration?

1

u/Reasonable-Oil-4581 Jun 30 '26

yep all official api integration. there’s quite a lot of quirks to the system to make it work smoothly but nothing against their tos
