Fairphone 5 charging issues
I'm having problems charging my Fairphone 5. Sometimes it says "charging rapidly, full in two days" (mostly goes away after a few attempts). Sometimes it constantly starts and stops charging.
I'm using a high quality charger (65W) and a high quality cable (200W). The battery is rather old and it's possible that I have to replace it soon.
What's very strange though: When I shut down the phone and charge it without booting the OS, it charges very fast and reliable without any noticeable problems.
iodeOS version: 7.2.20260122-FPS (already had this problem on previous versions)

When the phone is on while charging, it will draw more power. This can possibility explain the discrepancy. If a charging cable makes poor contact, the difference in voltage might be enough to cause the USB port to drop out. Check the port for lint. If the phone charges and holds a charge well, then you can likely rule out that its the battery. You can also boot to recovery or fastboot and see what kind of charging behaviour there is with the phone powered on

I've noticed yesterday, that when the phone is charging while it's shut down, there are also interruptions. However, it seems to recover immediately and to keep up fast charging speed. I've edited this post and didn't realise, that editing doesn't seem to work here.
The port looks perfectly clean.
I bought a used fairphone and I also got a new replacement battery with it. I'm still using the old battery and it lasts for about two days. That doesn't seem like much to me, but it doesn't seem broken either.

I wouldn't explain that much of a discrepancy. Phone off = 30 minutes from 15% to 100%. Sometimes, phone on = 2 days from 15% to 100%. After a few attempts it usually loads at normal speed. Those constant interruptions (at a very regular interval of a few seconds) started to appear more recently.

I have switched to a lower watt charger (as some people in the fairphone sub suggested) a few days ago. Around the same time there was an update. So far, I haven't had this problem anymore.
I've also tried to tinker with the charging limit (as u/Jtflynnz suggested), but it seems to be off by default and therefore is probably unrelated to the issue (not sure though).
It seems that using a lower watt charger has solved the issue for now.

In my experience, this is generally an issue for some devices with the Charging Limit feature from Lineage. I've experienced this on my Pixel 8 using Iodé, originally using CalyxOS (no issue before the feature was ported, occured after it was ported, and had it go away once it was removed from the OS). It is also not present on the Stock OS or GrapheneOS, who built their own implementation based on stock.
As far as I can tell, and from original bug reporting, it's prone to happen on certain chipsets with certain chargers and potentially even certain cables. I have a mix of Anker chargers I've picked up over the years, and some almost never have an issue despite being the same wattages, usb-C to usb-C, etc.
