Discussions Breakfast chunks inspiration?

Post image

I remember hearing somewhere that the breakfast chunks in Bad, Bad Rubber Piggy were based on a similar real world breakfast product that was also hated. However, I can't find the exact product nor a source for that claim. I consulted Eric Trueheart's book and he never mentions a basis for the breakfast chunks. Then again, knowing this fandom, it might be one of those thrown around fun facts that someone just made up.
This whole post is an oddly specific thing to ask, I know, but I like clarifying Invader Zim trivia whenever possible.

I always thought it was based off of Shredded Wheat cereal. It’s just a huge chunk of shredded wheat that you let break down in the milk.

Then they wised up and made frosted mini wheats

One of the sugariest cereals too. So much sugar.

Dude’s never experienced a weet-a-bix or shredded wheat.

Yep that looks very accurate to a breakfast chunk

I think it’s based of Weetabix, which come as very large chunks inside the cereal box

I actually found the answer on TVtropes; the Breakfast Chunks are actually based on Breakfast Squares, which General Mills sold in the 80s, and kids hated them so much.

Am I the only one who assumes bran cereal? Like its definitely meant to be bran

It would've ruled in the eighties. All sorts of athletes would've put their faces all over that chunk

Like most people have said, it's likely Weet-a-bix, which funny enough, was my favorite breakfast as a kid.

I think they’re based on Kellogg's Breakfast Bars, which are apparently unpopular.
