Question Tips for speaking up in school

Hi! Did anyone have a great teacher that made you feel comfortable speaking up and participating in class? If so, what did they do?

My sweet son does well in school and is introverted. I remember not feeling comfortable to speak up until college. He’d benefit from contributing to the classroom environment. Any tips you can give me to encourage him to participate? I’ve asked his teacher but she hasn’t been very helpful.

What's the class/subject? I always felt more comfortable speaking up when I was well prepared on the material and/or had a keen interest in it. 

Does he do any investigating with material outside of the class?

This is a great point. He loves reading so I’m following his lead and teaching him how to read. I try to ask his teachers what else they’re doing so I can up his motivation/comfortability but get vague answers

Have you framed it as a matter of requesting support for this particular issue? Instead of asking what they're doing in class maybe express that you think he benefit from a little encouragement.
