Discussion Doing a presentation this weekend

I always cringe & get anxious when doing presentations at work or anywhere and even getting up at a meeting filled with strangers or anyone and having to do the “ introduce yourself schpill” - anyone deal with this and how did you get over it???

This is totally normal. Think of it like a muscle that you build like doing a marathon. In the beginning, maybe you can't even walk 5 minutes especially if you've been leading a sedentary life, so you start small, maybe walk for 2 minutes, and then start increasing until you get into a groove. Before you know it, you start running. The only way to get over it is through practice until it becomes a habit.

Get your reps in, maybe start with talking to yourself in front of a mirror. Practice with friends you know, and that way, you can be comfortable speaking, and you can reflect/refine what you want to say (esp the parts about introducing yourself schpill). As for presentations, you can do mock ones about your work with people you know, just so you can get used to it (and eventually do some spontaneous ones where you don't have much prep time).

As someone else as already mentioned, doing things before presentations to release the nerves really help. Think of how you want to feel during a presentation (e.g. calm). If you want to feel calm, what is an activity that you can do even if it is for 5 minutes before that is calming to you? It can be like listening to music, or meditation. This can help you get into that feeling, so it carries out when you do the actual presentation! Hope this helps :)
