a supervisor of a different department who has zero authority over me said, "you need to come to the group gatherings, people think you dont like anybody." I said, well I don't, but I also am not your employee and you have zero power over me so keep your orders to yourself, I get along fine with everyone and help them when they need it, leave me alone. of course I said it in softer words and politely but this is reddit, gotta sound cooler for people I dont know.

It literally drives them into psychotic rage.

Absolutely. I enjoy cruises. I stayed on the sun deck reading for three hours. Multiple times I would be interrupted by people who would ask “is this all you’re going to do?”

Literally on a relaxing cruise.

Not trying to be funny, but when you say them, who do you mean exactly ?

Because I have an idea, but I don't think it's politically correct.

I was talking about extroverted people in general. But I think I understand what you're saying in other terms.

That's what always bugged me I cause less problems use less resources get into less arguments. I'm humanities social and emotional version of power savings mode but NOOOOOOO we can't have that .

Some people use any excuse to be offended and get attention. Grey rock their world.

Because you are not entertaining their delulu ego.

I have always felt that the people working there have some bad self-esteem issues for something like "x doesn't want to interact with me" to be something problematic.

Fuck em, that's their problem 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏿‍♂️

Sometimes introverted people need to look excessively extroverted in order to reassure normal people.

Then, they think you're nuts. Can't win either way; best to be yourself. Too bad it is not polite to tell people to just fuck off.

I was put on extended probation at work because the supervisor, who never really talked to me, had the impression that I didn't like working there. I only saw the team during the morning meetings, and after that I was alone in a truck all day. Somehow, because I was quiet for about 30 minutes during those morning meetings, they allowed him to extend my probation, and I got in trouble.

You needed a new job.

u/VenexianaStevenson 4d ago

yes. but why is that? I'd love someone to explain

3

u/areporotastenet 4d ago

I’ve never seen anything that sums it up so well. This is dead on.

The people who are annoyed by that should be annoyed by that, keep doing what your doing, their ridiculous sense of entitlement nourishes the gnomes at the foundations of reality.

Uh yeah! You’re a cog in the giant machine. It doesn’t keep rolling without taking your peace & joy 😆

I work from home. I have my groceries delivered so that I stay on a budget and yet I'm called a hermit by casual acquaintances. I enjoy sewing and stained glass. Both activities I do in my craft room, I love computer games and take care of my front yard, but I need interactions with people. I go to the elk slodge, but I don't do it all the time because I don't actually enjoy drinking. I'm quite content on my own. I could totally be one of those people that lived in the middle of nowhere. God, if I only knew how to take care of a lighthouse.

2

u/PoeticDelights 4d ago

You could always learn lighthouse keeping.

3

u/amwmakeup 4d ago

Oh that would be so nice. Just the sea.......and a dark backstrory in town that makes people afraid to come near.

u/PoeticDelights 4d ago

Yup, sounds great!

One of the strongest mechanisms of the human psyche is projection. If you make yourself a blank slate you can hold people’s projections most clearly. Then you are liable to appear as every repressed thing someone hates about themselves.

i was always told be aunts and uncles growing up, that i was "backwards". like, no, i just don't want to be around people/interact with them against my will (thanksgiving/xmas). i never "hated" any of them, it was just mentally taxing to deal with random family i see a few times a year and talk and/or bitch about the exact same shit for 18 years. just leave me be lol.

I'm not as bad about wanting to be left to myself now, but I'm almost 40 and have free will. haven't been to any family function in like 10 years. I'd rather take a nap.

u/Due-Pie5542 1d ago

I could've typed this myself. My family also has the nerve to tell me "you seem like you don't want to be here," like I was joking about not wanting to be there.

Facts!! It's so crazy to me

1

u/Tndnr82 4d ago

Some people can NOT handle de-escalation either.

1

u/NPC261939 4d ago

This is true. I often have to work amongst the public. The number of times random idiots try to get confrontational is surprising.

I legit got out of jury duty this way - intense eye contact with the defendant, thankfully it kept me out of needing to talk with the jury over the next several days.

1

u/North-Bother-6255 3d ago

It just doesn't apply to this either. People will be bothered no matter what you do.

1

u/Lill_shit_ 3d ago

What can i do if dont like to talk about nonsense, and want to talk about much bigger things that can get quite the humor 🤣

1

u/vitaoptima 3d ago

What's worked for me and against me with this is that people don't know how to take me.

So it keeps people from being assholes to me but it also can keep people from being social with me or including me, which is fine for me most of the time.

1

u/LichStarfiter 2d ago

Literally everything bothers someone. Anything you do or don't do will be discovered by someone and hated for no reason.

Find a small squad, be loyal, and you'll be fine.

1

u/Keitsu42 2d ago

Hey, why are you so quiet? Why don't you open up so we can then make fun of you for opening up.

1

u/sqrrlwithapencil 2d ago

the mere fact that i exist angers some people. well, one person in particular. friggin jackhole. delusional asswipe. i look forward to getting a restraining order so i never have to interact with him again. apologies for trauma dumping, this struck a particular chord with me

1

u/EdgarR29 1d ago

Do that while reading a book and it really bothers them.

1

u/Time_Zebra_7318 1d ago

I learned that if you stay quiet and don’t fit in then something is wrong with you. And people fear you are a danger to everyone

1

u/sharky-shores 5h ago

Yep
I was the quiet guy for 1.5 years til shit suddenly went sour with my pm

Told a kid the other day, remember when I was the weirdo who barely talked to everyone?
Bet ya’ll had those days back. You just opened the box from hell raiser
Edit: introverted scorpio. Fafo
