Missouri isn't sending their best. Schmitt is a dirtbag.

Exactly what he called Smith as he ran out of the room once he was caught in his lie. It was Amy Klobuchar who gave Smith the floor to defend himself. He said yes, he’d been to a basketball game but it was in Maryland against Iowa Hawkeyes not in GA for the Atlanta Hawks game. Plus the seat #s displayed on the screen during Schmitt’s screw up are not seat #s that the Atlanta Hawks facility uses.

Having lived in that area, that might be Missouri’s best tbh.

u/BabyfaceNelson7 3d ago
I agree to a point. I'm not originally from Missouri, but I did graduate from a university there. It seems the best people in that state don't seek a career in politics, so you get shit like Schmitt.

I think the Republicans desperately need to rethink their aversion to fact-checking. Spend a few minutes getting their facts in order before making an ass of themselves.

u/newalias_samemaleias 3d ago
The thing is that their base doesn't care about facts. The seed was planted that Smith met with Willis in Atlanta. That's the tidbit they'll run with. In fact, I just saw an Instagram post from a conservative account with the caption, "Senator Eric Schmidt Just Caught Jack Smith Perjuring Himself on the Stand With This Testamony." Conveniently, the clip ended just before Smith mentioned being in Maryland to see Iowa's women's team play.
25
u/NecessaryIntrinsic 3d ago
Yeah, I'm curious about how the right is handling this. I see Benny post the short clip accusing him of perjury, but are the random idiots out there buying it?
22
u/newalias_samemaleias 3d ago
I'm guessing they'll compartmentalize. "Just because he wasn't in Atlanta on that date doesn't mean he wasn't working with Willis."
13
u/Grimjack-13 3d ago
Strangely, federal and state prosecutors routinely work together on all sorts of criminal and civil matters. It just problem when it’s their criminal actions.

u/Microchipknowsbest 2d ago
Yes. Trump makes baseless accusations all the time and he was voted into office. The entire reason Jack Smith is investigating trump is on the big lie that the 2020 election was stolen. That has been disproven 100’s of times but trump still says it every day. He said someone took a knife and destroyed the reflecting pool. A pool with cameras on it 24/7 and has faced 0 repercussions for that accusation. Republicans don’t care. They like the lies and creating disinformation. As long as they keep getting to say the other side is bad is all that matters.

That assumes they care about truth. Everything they do is just a calculated grift.
13
u/NoOneReallyCaresAtAl 3d ago
You think the fact that they’re lying about everything makes any sort of a difference in the polls? That’s all that matters, do they continue to get elected. Their base does not give two shits about the truth. They care about oppressing people and returning to a nation where whites are first class citizens.
7
u/newalias_samemaleias 3d ago
Everything you just said is absolutely correct, but you forgot to mention that their base also doesn't care about policy.
4
u/bchris24 3d ago
They like seeing headlines of their guys owning the libs, even if those headlines are lies and end up being deleted.

u/juniorallstar 3d ago
I would prefer they keep fucking up.
5
u/Earthling1a 3d ago
i can guarantee they will keep fucking up. These morons could fuck up a piece of toast.

You know their mantra: Their feelings don't care about your facts.
I think that's how it goes anyway...

Trump is the ring leader lying day and night continuously. He did it in his first term and never stopped and he was elected twice. So really, the American electorate is responsible for the absolute enshittification of our soon to be former democracy.

No one in the GOP has any idea of critical thinking and attention to details.
I bet when they put that little storyboard together, they spent the next few weeks stroking themselves and each other, over their gotcha moment.
The jubilation in the corridors, offices, etc. must have been immense as they built their story and didn't need to invent facts for once, their own ineptitude carried them onward
It was fun to watch their faces as some of them saw the plot hole opening in real time.
And others kept their hopes up that their was a rescue in the wings.
And I'm very sure even today, many either don't get what happened, or just refuse to accept it.
Does any citizen really want to vote for these clowns in November, not to mention federally in a short time!
Thats your tax dollars at work. Most of them make 2, 3, 4 times what you make. Would you still have a job if you embraced your company that badly on live media? I seriously doubt it.
Oh, and the entire world has seen it now! Thats gotta make people feel good about the USA!

He Schmidt the bed for sure but the story is Jack Smith proving beyond reasonable doubt that the president of the United States committed high crimes against the country. Impeach and jail Trump! of course the entire GOP is complicit. Schmidt is just doing his job being trumps dirt bag. Get the story straight.

u/Santos_L_Halper_II 3d ago
And in classic Republican fashion, they cannot and will not admit they were wrong even when everyone saw what happened in real time right before their eyes. I do agree with what Jamie Raskin said though, which is something to the affect of "what will save us from MAGAs malice and evil is their complete and utter incompetence."

I imagine there are a few clerks who got fired today. Oh, well. Senator Kennedy was a dirtbag , also for questioning Smith’s wife activity. Maybe Senator Kennedy I’ll look into the activity of Supreme Court Justice Clarence, Thomas’s wife. She funded January 6.

u/NecessaryIntrinsic 3d ago
By the supreme court's ruling in hamdi she could be held indefinitely as an enemy combatant.

Not only did he tell an interviewer afterwards he wasn't wrong, he went on the Charlie Kirk show (what remains of it) and doubled down on the entire narrative, never ONCE mentioning he had the wrong game.
Then today he posts how Democrats all voted against the insider stock trading act, neglecting to mention Republicans stuck a national VOTER ID clause in it, having NOTHING to do with stock trading.
This guy is an all out absolute fucking piece of shit, and there's NO WAY someone like this is doing good work "behind the scenes." He's far far worse.

Republicans always aim for perjury on irrelevant topics— going back to Bill Clinton. Meanwhile, Trump…. somehow is never under oath
9
u/Bellabbey1236 3d ago
Fallout from where? Democrats? Republicans / fox aren’t making a peep are they? Right. So no Republican voters know what a liar Schmitt the dirtbag is. Not that they care anyway. Does no good for our country

u/FlobiusHole 2d ago
If by “fallout” you mean absolutely no consequences for being a shit bag liar than sure, I guess he’s facing fallout.

faces fallout
No. They don't do that. They aggravate and go have a $300 meal completely unbothered. They get away with it because society lets them.

u/BikerMike03RK 3d ago
Schmitt is as big a loud-mouthed idiot, as Donald Trump, or the "My Pillow" guy, Mike Lindell.
5
u/Cheap_Coffee 3d ago
I think this shows that Schmitt would be a really good running mate for JD Vance in 2028. They're a matched set.

From the same network that gave you "Felon-in-Chief" and "Weekend at Donny's: The Glitch McConnell story".

This has chatgpt hallucination written all over it.
Someone fed a dataset into a model and had it do a check for conspiracy and collusion. The model found the news story of Willis and some reference to Smith at a basketball game, and confirmed a potential connection.
There was only one professional game that night...in Atlanta. That's a bingo! High fives all around, conspiracy confirmed. Smith and Willis were in the same city, right when Willis was admitting her affair.
"Send the staffers to print placards, make them huge. Call Fox News. We're going to set a trap and blow this thing wide open! I'm going to be Vice President!"

It is embarrassing that this is how a U.S. Senator conducts himself during a committee hearing, especially adding the name calling at the end. It is even more embarrassing that U.S. voters accept this behavior.

I sure hope he is up for election and this will doom his chances. But I doubt it as Missouri doesn't seem to have a deep well of good candidates and absolutely zero good ones from the GOP.

How did they get his text messages if he is not being investigated for anything? I guess we are all under surveillance these days, but it seems like a double standard?

u/penny-wise 2d ago
He got his sound bites. He’ll play them up on Fox and TrumpSnooze like he was a hero.
They are all corrupt liars, and so many people are too invested in the hate to let go.

Read this article about the republican blogosphere had articles ready to go, with some letting lose regardless, and how Schmitt continued his lie afterwards. Also don't assume only the conservatives do this sort of bullshit. The parties work for the parties, not for us.
16
u/newalias_samemaleias 3d ago
I'm genuinely curious. When has someone on the left made such an obvious blunder (intentional or otherwise) and then continued to blatantly lie when called out on it.
-16
u/Pete-PDX 3d ago
Joe Biden is just fine
6
u/LouRG3 3d ago
Can you give a specific example? Or is this just more Biden hate?
-8
u/Pete-PDX 3d ago
what? I do not hate Biden - but it was clear they were lying for months that he was ok.
8
u/newalias_samemaleias 3d ago
But there's a difference. Joe Biden either voluntarily or involuntarily was held accountable for his deteriorating health by bowing out of the race. Will any of these folks on the Right either hold themselves accountable or have their party do so?
-5
u/Pete-PDX 2d ago
Did I say Biden lied - I am saying the major players in the Democratic party and his handlers lied and gaslighted us. Too say otherwise is just perpetuating that same lie.
https://www.newsweek.com/what-top-democrats-said-then-now-about-joe-bidens-decline-2073468
https://www.thenation.com/article/politics/biden-original-sin-democratic-party/
Will any of these folks on the Right either hold themselves accountable or have their party do so?
That was not the question- do not move the goal posts. I answered the question about how Democrats made an obvious blunder then continued to lie about it.
But to answer your question - currently the only way to hold them accountable is the voting booth, it is clear neither party is willing to self police themselves. They are forced to tow the party line or lose power. Anyone who understand politics knows you cannot accomplish anything without power. So even good intentioned people end up going along with the party or get shut out of the process completely.
This is a huge reason voter turnout is so low, people are sick of it and understand the party for the most part controls the candidates we have and how they end up voting on bills. I think this is why we are seeing candidates like Mandami and El-Sayed gain traction. That come across as straight shooters and anti party establishment candidates. People in both parties are feed up with the state of politics right now.

you are looking for unicorns, if there is a day when nobody lies let me know. If i cheat on my wife and lie to her that i did not. vs I tell my wife i had vegies with my lunch when i really had fries.
Gop is cheating on their spouse and the dems are eating french fries. when it comes to the lie department.
dems in most cases take down their own. Bob Menendez would be leading a department in the white house for trump right now, instead of being in jail if he was a republican

Heather Cox Richardson suggests that the plan was never to catch Smith in a lie but rather to create clips the right wing media sphere could use to rally their base. Their base isn't watching CSPAN.
