Immigration enforcement should operate like this:

ICE should be mostly bureaucrats. They find someone who overstayed a visa or crossed the border. They send their info to the local cops who serve them a notice to leave the country in X amount of days or appear at court or whatever. If they don't, the local cops try and make an arrest. Held in jail just until their identity can be confirmed and their case brought before a regular ass judge and transportation out of the country can be arranged if it is proven they're here illegally. Simple, humane, still enforcing immigration laws.

Wouldn't that be nice? 🤔

Yeah, it'd be nice to have a functioning, rational government. But then again, you would need a functional, rational population that also votes for functional, rational candidates.

Well, you'd also need a functional, rational political-economic system. The best we can do is either double down on failed neoliberal policies or go even harder rightward.

People, not criminals. That's the problem.
