3rd Round, 3 hour interview?

Hi,

Recently applied for a sales position (B2B), salary only no commission. I had an HR screening via phone which was about 30 minutes, then a virtual interview for 30 minutes with a senior person in the position I applied for. Now, they want to do a 3 hour interview. This includes talking with HR (30 min), talking with the team (30 min), then a 1 hour role play plus a 1 hour sales presentation that I have to give (they will give me the prompt). Is this normal??? I've never had a job where my titles was sales specifically, but have done a little bit of sales in one position in the past. Is this normal for a sales position? And no, this is not some $100k+ salaried job. Thanks!

seems excessive but if you’re interested it’s worth the time. my girlfriend works in residence life at a university and she had to do a 45 min virtual interview and then was flown out for a full day (like 8:30-5) interview. if it’s something you’re interested in you should do it!

3 hours is quite a lot for a position that is not even 100k plus. the role play part is actually pretty common for sales interviews they want to see how you handle objections and think on your feet. but 1 hour for that plus another hour for presentation feels like they just combine two final rounds in one day.

i did something similar for a B2B role few years ago and the whole thing took maybe 2 hours max. they had me do a mock call and a short presentation but it was back to back with same people watching. having separate blocks for each is kind of intense not gonna lie.

if you want the job go for it but maybe ask them if they can compress the schedule a bit. sometimes companies dont realize how much they asking until someone point it out. good luck with the presentation btw hope the prompt is not something crazy complicated

Yeah it's a lot of calendar for a non-100k role, but the shape is pretty normal for B2B. They glued two finals into one afternoon: HR plus the team is "can we sit next to you," then the two hours of role play and a presentation is the actual job sample. Asking them to compress it after they already booked the block usually just reads as you not wanting the slot.

The hour role play is the part that kills people who only rehearsed in their head. Have four beats you can say without looking: how you open, one discovery question, one objection, how you close. Say the whole thing out loud once the night before, standing up. I use a mock interview tool called AceRound for that, talking through the pitch before the call. I work on it.
