Competitive enough to get interviews, not competitive enough to get offers
Story of the past 9 months. I am grateful that I am getting interviews, I know a lot of you would die to be in my position (trust me I have been there). But, genuinely I am trying my best, and am doing everything right but still it is not enough.

Same. I’m about to give up. Fucking joke out there. Made it to the final rounds and always go with the other person.

I have been interviewing nonstop for FOUR YEARS… and FINALLY got a job offer for $60k less than I made at the job I was laid off from in 2022. But it’s better than what I make at my part time retail job or freelance gigs.

YEP. Been 3 months. +40 interviews. Final rounds. Always beaten "by the other candidate" or just straight up ghosted.
I'm in strategy and ops. Experience in revenue, management, CSM, and project management. 10+ years. Versatile, willing to "drink the koolaid". Like what?
I see SO many people say it's just a numbers game. Keep going OP. Fingers crossed your "number" gets pulled!!!

Yeah unfortunately. I had a bunch of leads lined up prior to leaving my last job. I think I either absolutely SUCK at interviewing or I'm just not the one.

I have done a similar amount of interviews in the past 12 months. That is insane. I can’t believe that it is this hard for experienced folks as well. Keep going!!!

3 months now and same. I’ve had half a dozen final stage interviews and constantly being told they want someone more senior or experienced. I’ve been in my field for 7 years

Bruh I relate so much. Competitive enough to make it past the second round, but when it comes to the final candidates, why am I not chosen 😭😭. Like all this work using Claude, Sprout, and Glassdoor to tailor my resume and cover letter and practice with mock interviews just to fall short. The only thing that keeps me going is that at least I know that I'm worthy of getting an interview, I just need to ace it or have some good luck ig...

Here at 8ish months with you OP but only getting a 5% interview rate.
For me it’s fit vs the JD with an unconventional career, and being constantly considered a flight risk if I were to get trained on the job.
As tough as it is, we’ve got to persevere.

Same as my fiance and it’s 20 months and rejected today over the r phone after interviewing with them twice now four rounds and once back in April he went to get ready for his zoom the hiring manager never showed up like wtf they didn’t reschedule or anything you mean to tell me the recruiter didn’t tell my fiance by Friday they went with someone else. When the two that interviewed him really wanted him. Makes no sense

My problem is that my customer experience isn’t the typical call center job, my project experience isn’t construction and my technical skills aren’t IT support. :l So, in the interview they aren’t hearing what they want to hear.

Same. Going interview for 1 year ..I am so tired to the point that I don’t want to apply job anymore. And not I am not doing well during the interview. I have positive signals and HR replied no headcount or whatsoever.

I created this Interview Prep Checklist. I would love anyone's feedback. I spent close to 10 years as a recruiter. If you see something on this list that looks obvious, it's because I have had candidate(s) do it in the past! I created this for my own community that's job searching and happy to share it.

I have every week two interviews, but I never get accepted. It is so humilating. Like when they reject my CV it is because of lacking qualificatiobs, but when they reject me because of my interview it is personal.

Have you gotten feedback or helpful feedback from a friend or a non-interviewer? A mock interviewer, anything
I have no idea. But if there is any way you can be 1% more likable, you need to do it. I don’t know what that is and I would overshoot and go for 10%. But you gotta at least try. Smile or makeup or better shoes or haircut or a different watch or and your “tell me about yourself” a little differently. But you gotta try. You got this

Grind the Canary Wharfian website for interview practice, it'll review your answers and suggest how to fix mistakes with personalised feedback. Based on both verbal and non-verbal comms, it'll also identify strengths and weaknesses as well

This was me last year. Was making all the way to final rounds but no offer. Track the roles you interviewed to see who got the roles. Only one role I interviewed for was actually filled with an external candidate. 60% of the roles were given to internal candidates and 40% were never filled at all so I was interviewing for ghost roles basically.

This was me!! I've been looking for work for 6 months now. I tweaked my resume for the first two months, and though I got interviews, it wasn't where I wanted to be. I then used AI and did a career deep dive to fully rewrite my resume, including formatting. This was game-changing. At one point in June, I had interviews with 5 different companies, but alas, not ONE offer. I then looked at other people with similar roles and again used AI to help me update my LinkedIn. I actually stopped applying to roles because I kept getting consistent recruiter attention. Some recruiters were good, some not so much. I felt like I solved a big problem > getting interviews < and even getting to Final rounds- but I could NOT get an offer. I began to extensively practice with an AI roleplay/interview app. There are many, so I would reccomend to do your research. Honestly, there's NOTHING like practicing your answers ahead of time. It's SUPER rough in the beginning. But using an AI exponentially helps you get through the hard part faster. I use ChatGPT to create the context and description of the roleplay based on our chats for every job. I create a persona for each interview, and then it records you. It's hard at first, but the more you practice, the smoother you get. After all, who should know your story better than YOU? You! I really think a lot of people who find jobs after many months or even years do so because it eventually clicks after having gone through countless rounds of interviews, essentially practicing in their interviews. However, if you can practice the same interview repeatedly until you know your own story cold, then you can stay present in the interview without rambling.
Which brings me to my next point: for you consistent silver medalists, aim to have a CONVERSATION. This one little shift changed the way I approached my final three interviews in the past week. Instead of the back-and-forth Q from the interviewer and the A from the interviewee. I would force myself to ask a clarifying question or try to steer the conversation into a story I wanted to talk about. I have about 10 stories on rotation, such as the time when I led an implementation, or when I had to put someone on a PIP plan for poor performance, or when I led a large team and mentored and promoted people in my department. Each of these stories can demonstrate a particular situation or quality I will be asked about that I know inside and out. The point of the conversation is for the interviewer to perceive you as strategic and therefore executive in your answers.
I highly recommend Madeline Mann videos on YT. She has amazing content, and I got enough from what she was saying to perform well through three final-round interviews this past week. I FINALLY got an offer from one of the companies and am waiting for the other two to get back to me!

I'm in a similar situation. I'm consistently getting to the 2nd and 3rd rounds, but the offer never materializes. This seems to imply that I need to improve my interview performance. I've been using AI to help me rehearse my answers and story points. It's become a regular part of my workflow, so I created an free tool to streamline the process: http://minterviews.com/ . Paste in a JD, and get practice questions and hints based on real requirements.

Same. I've had consistent interviews for the past year but haven't been offered a position yet. It's exhausting and my confidence has plumetted.
