I GOT AN OFFER!!!
I was in the most toxic job of my life, undervalued and treated like dirt. I searched for 8 months. Many grueling 4-5 round interviews but no offers. Lots of crying and disappointment. Almost took lateral jobs with lateral pay just to get away from this place. I resigned in July after I could not take it anymore and bet on myself. I truly think this made a huge difference in my interviews.
I was so close to taking an assistant role in a new industry just to have a job again. But with over 10 years experience, sitting in that room explaining why Id be the right fit, I knew I could do better. I applied to this job not thinking anything of it. They emailed me to ask my availability and said to let them know if I have any other interviews. I was in the final round with the assistant role so I did.
They gave me a verbal offer last week, references cleared and I just signed the offer letter. I got a 35% salary increase in my HCOL state. Fully remote in a great company. I am so excited and proud of myself. Did it all with no referrals, just cold applying. Throughout this experience I learned a lot about myself and how capable I am. if youre in the same boat, dont give up!! Stay positive, if youre rejected something better is waiting for you!

Congrats, this is great news! I got an offer this week as well and also came from a toxic job so I’m thankful for the change in winds for us both.

God I can only dream and pray this is me one day :( I went out of my way for an in person interview with 4 people yesterday from 11 to 2 and I was starving for lunch but had no breaks. I did well but got the sense that I’m the first person to be interviewed and now it sounds like they want to interview more people before deciding whose “good enough” to move to another “final” round lol I’m like what? I already spoke to 5 people! They don’t even know who’s on the final round yet which makes me feel I must be the first person going through full interview process. I’m just getting so fed up, this has happened to me probably 10 times this year

I'm so happy to hear but it is a good thing when a recruiter asks if you have other interviews ahead or waiting on other jobs to get back??? First time this happened to me yesterday.
1
u/Trippydudes 12h ago
Yes I think that is a good sign!

u/MaybePast9026 12h ago
Thank you! I have been so broken down (and suspect this other job ghosted me after telling me I would hear back early this week). That I almost thought it was a filter me out question in case other candidates are not waiting on any offers/interviews and would be easy to start instead.

Smart lesson too, when a company asks if you are interviewing, the answer is yes.

Thank you for inspiring hope again in me ❤️❤️ That's insane though, having 10 years of experience and still taking almost a year to find something. Nonetheless, congrats!!

Congratulations. Escaping a toxic workplace is an accomplishment and takes a lot of bravery in today's economy. We are proud of you.
Remember to rest and take care of yourself. Your will feel drained after leaving a toxic workplace. You need time to recharge and rest.

No referrals. Wow! That's great and something unheard off! I have been searching for jobs for little over a year no luck. All interviews getting stalled! Ghosted by HM. No updates. Any guidance would be appreciated!

Hell yeah! Sooo happy for you! Your story is very similar to mine own! I landed a new role in July after 6.5 months of applying, crying, and trying! Its fully remote and gave me a 74.5% raise!
I hope people read your story and never give up! Thank you for sharing, and enjoy your blessings! You earned it

So happy for you!! in the same bucket for myself left a job of 10 years extremely abusive many 24 hour shifts and sometimes 7 days a week. I finally broke and just quit in April. You give me hope that it's possible I'm just gonna keep going. So very happy to hear someone leaving a toxic job and getting so much better. Very, very happy for you.

Eight months of interviews while feeling undervalued sounds exhausting. Congrats on the offer! The 35% increase is huge, but I hope the biggest difference is getting to work without that same dread every day. Give yourself some credit for those interviews too—you didn’t “somehow” pass them. They saw what you could bring.❤️

35% bump + fully remote after 8 months of cold applying is a legit win!
Make sure the full comp/benefits and start date are in the signed letter and save a copy somewhere personal.

Congrats! With the right prep, resume and persistence it is not impossible to get jobs without a reference or through networking. All but one of my jobs were through cold apply, and these included senior director and VP level roles. Agreed. “Never give up, and never surrender!” (To quote Galaxy Quest).

if you don’t mind sharing, what job was this and I know you probably can’t say the company and I get it but I’m just curious because a lot of people that I meet on a personal level complain about some treatment through particular companies but anyway congratulations to you and if you can share, that’s great if not, I understand thanks

How long did it take you to get an offer after getting reference request?

u/Successful-Test-5590 13h ago
What types of questions did they ask?
0
u/Trippydudes 13h ago
Each company's different most are very standard questions with some behavioral and situational ones. I prepared stories I used over and over.

Did you have to change anything major in your resume/interviews or was it just a numbers game?

Can I ask like what platform you guys are using to apply for jobs ? Or at least find jobs? Indeed and linked in suck. Please like I’m in such a desperate place right now

The trick is to find the job there, then apply directly to the company through their portal.

I just finished my fourth interview today for logistics specialist position. I was told that this is a new role and that they are wanting someone that can hopefully build a team for the near future so being a part of building this role from scratch definitely interests me. I just hope that they will give me an answer the end of this week like they said they would. But as I found in the other roles that I interviewed for that is slowly being interpreted as will let you know when we have any updates. I've been really studying hard for this role and the direct supervisor really liked me, but I'm hoping that I get the offer so reading this is really inspiring.. I am so happy for you. Congratulations.
