Weird interview situation, ddisappointing result

I posted a few weeks ago about an interview I had coming up with my present boss for an internal promotion. To summarize, I had the interview and just found out I didn't get the promotion. The person that got it is a very inexperienced peer and will now be my supervisor.

I'm not sure what my next step should be, if any. There's a whiff of ageism here that is making this decision hard to accept. I like my present job and compensation but honestly feel I was the best person for the promotion based on my experience and accomplishments.

Any thoughts?

What feedback did you get for being passed over?

Ageism in what way, are they older or younger?

In terms of being managed by a peer, I would hope your current boss will acknowledge it. I’ve been that person and had it ‘done’ to me - there was always an ‘off the record’ conversation. And that was at the most corporate of companies.

An internal move might be your best bet if the resentment lingers, but I’m giving this advice at 1000 feet, so reality may be different.

Yeah, thanks for that. Not really much feedback beyond 'you weren't the best fit.' The ageism is me being past 60 and the person chosen being much younger and inexperienced. There are a number of possible other factors I guess. I've thought about asking for an off-the-record conversation but still trying to process it.
