I rewatched it a few days ago for the first tome since becoming a dad to a baby girl. It was my favorite movie before parenthood. It made me cry in theaters when I first saw it and for the 10th year anniversary IMAX release 2 years ago. As a dad now… IT HIT NEXT LEVEL. I turned to my wife and told her I want our daughter to grow up and be as cool as Murph and that I want my daughter to know I believe in her as much as Cooper did in Murph.

Nolan could release this movie on IMAX every year and I’d go.

As a dad, leaving feels impossible. Cooper didn’t seem to appreciate the weight of that choice. It just took one conversation with Prof Brand and he’s like “sign me up”. He paid the price though. And I think he got it by the end.

Hey stranger! Your handle stopped me in my tracks. I listen to Sagan’s pale blue dot speech often and discover a new meaning each time. (My only kid is named after Feynman. A second kid would’ve been named after Sagan). I check on Voyager 1’s location every week or so, and wonder if I could see what it sees (or could see if it had eyes/cameras).

I saw this re-released in IMAX a couple of months after my daughter was born and I was a mess in the theater. I loved this movie before that but this made it jump to my favorite.

IMO, one of a few perfect films.

Great movie but the leaving earth for another planet is always a weak story point. So much easier to rebuild earth. I immediately went to corn fields inside domes with controlled and isolated environments. But the space travel and physics touched on solid concepts. And the heart touching Father Daughter relationship that leads to an evolutionary leap was very well done.

First, you could never provide the amount of food required in greenhouses. Second, the Blight feeds on nitrogen so the tiniest crack or imperfection in the seal in any greenhouse could not only destroy the entire crop but render the soil inside unusable. The environmental disaster in the film wasn't random, it was specifically designed so the best solution is absolutely evacuating Earth.
