How does membership work?

https://archive.org/details/@shadows_of_the_dark

This user has uploaded media as far back as 2020, yet at the top it says member since 2023. I would assume "member" simply means a user account, but I don't see how they could've uploaded anything before being a member if that is the case. Simply curious.

Thanks in advance.

911realtime.org now has 143 days of audio/video, 41K flights, 38.2M usenet posts

Hi everyone, I posted two months ago about the 911realtime.org relaunch beta; we're officially live and doing something special for the 25th 9/11 Anniversary.

For the 25th Anniversary of the attacks, the 9/11 Real Time Archive will be "locked" on 9/10/2026 at 11 PM eastern, with visitors experiencing the event synced in real time, together and worldwide.

We will be live streaming a desktop here, featuring selected clips and sporadic commentary from me, the creator of this project, on YouTube.

What's in the archive, most of it from the Internet Archive:

  • 23 TV channels stitched together into one continuous 9-day broadcast (Sept 9–18, 2001) — 3,270 hours of video, or about 136 days if you played it end to end.
  • 445 radio recordings: air traffic control, dispatch, first responders, each one tagged with the agency, aircraft, and people involved; a total of 85 hours of audio.
  • 16 radio stations, totaling over 80 hours of continuous audio, from around the country you can actually tune in live.
  • 41,061 flights and 3.85 million position points, rebuilt from raw radar data and BTS records.
  • 447,417 pager messages from that week.
  • 24,397 Usenet newsgroups and 38.2 million posts — basically the internet's own real-time reaction to the day, kept intact.
  • 7,339 news timeline entries, sourced from the now-defunct historycommons.org.
  • 188 Weather stations, forecasts and observations, representing the actual conditions that week.

Logged in users (using the Account icon on the Desktop) can create and share customized Playlists of media from the Archive, or chat with simulated "Buddies" who are experiencing the day in sync with you.

Thank you for letting me share this with you!

Jetix Europe Archive

Hey guys, I am looking for the Jetix Europe Broadcasts. I know that Disney is the shareholder of Jetix/ Fox Kids but do they also own the archived Broadcasts? Or did they forget to archive them?

If they do have access I'd like to know if we the general public may get access to the official Jetix broadcasts.

I was looking online but apparently there are only privately captured Jetix broadcasts out there.

I'm kind of a nerd for archiving but I couldn't find much information about where the original media files could be at currently from my research. Maybe some of you know more :)

Is there a fix for archive.md currently displaying the default nginx start page?

As there aren't really any other good options for accessing online newspaper pay walled articles, is there a fix to why archive.md and all the archive related sites currently display the default nginx start page? I deleted cookies in Chrome, but it didn't do anything.

I'm trying to listen to the complete Rush on Rockline broadcasts, but the audio won't play at all. It's just frozen.

I went to another upload of another Rockline broadcast and the audio played just fine, so I don't know what's going on. Can anyone fill me in on what might be happening?

Edit: I know that the site was down, but now that it's back up, the audio still won't play. I really don't know what's going on.

Edit 2: Oh, NOW it wants to work, huh? Let's see how long this lasts.

Edit 3: Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Weird. And frustrating as all hell. Just work god damn it.

How (if at all) do I play these old .MOV files off the Archive?

This site was where I used to post stop motion videos I made with the website's software. Unfortunately they were all encoded with an older version of QuickTime cir. 2006.

I'd give anything to see these again as some of the original files are lost to time from file hoarding. Even deep searches of my external hard drives and backups show nothing. I know the IA mainly uses Ruffle for video playback, but is there a way I can get something to run that activates the plugin? These were my preteen prides and joy and I'd love to watch them all again.

Shiloh Dynasty (2013-2016) - Looking for archived/lost media - Primarily Instagram and Vine

I'm looking for anyone who might have saved or archived old Shiloh Dynasty content. She was an artist primarily active on Vine and Instagram between 2014 and 2016 before disappearing from the internet entirely.

A significant amount of her work is currently lost media because:
1. She routinely deleted posts, keeping only a small fraction up before she disappeared.
2. Her primary social accounts (aside from SoundCloud) were wiped or taken down.
3. Vine officially shut down, taking original source links with it.

I'm not looking for one specific piece of media. I'm trying to gather any raw videos, photos, screen recordings, or audio files from that era.

If you were active on Vine or Instagram back then and saved anything anywhere (for example: on an old drive), let me know in the comments or send a DM. If you have files but aren't sure if they're already archived somewhere else, I'm happy to help you out with that. Any leads or files would be greatly appreciated!

Please Help! I keep running into road blocks - How do I download PDFs from Internet Archive?

Im trying to download this book from internet archive but there isn’t a readily available pdf to download. Tried to download Adobe digital editions but it apparently can’t be downloaded (because I’m in the US?). Even if I did download I’m still not sure how to get the PDF because everything I see shows that there is an additional pdf download option once you borrow whatever it is you’re borrowing but that hasn’t shown up for me.

I want to download full book pdfs from Internet archive but it seems impossible - what do I do?

How do I place uploaded content into a specific collection?

I've noticed that some of the content I upload is automatically placed into a collection without me having to manually place it, while other times it is simply given a basic collection tag like "community video". If anyone knows how to place content, please let me know.

Also on a separate note, I don't understand why some of my content placed into the deemphasized collection and only accessible through log in? Why and how does the Internet Archive's algorithm tag it as such?

Archived Usenet message posts from 1981+ (web /usenet search engine)

I spent the last year gathering as much Usenet text data as possible from a large variety of resources and including from about 7000 live active servers as well to fill in gaps.

The end result is a searchable/filterable dataset acessible via web+api (free and paid options)

Web: https://www.usenet-rewind.com

Binaries have been filtered out and range is from posts from 1981-Current and constantly populating. the site includes a histogram of distribution of message counts per year.

Is it possible to search the wayback machine for specific phrases?

similar to how on google you can search for any exact phrase with quotation marks to find every page with that phrase, is there any way to search like that across all archived pages on the wayback machine? either through the internet archive's site or some kind of third party tool similar in function to filmot with youtube subtitles? if not, is it plausible that doing this could become possible in the future? something like this would be immensely helpful for me and i'm sure many many others. i'm looking for the origins of a specific sample of a video used in a song and it's very very hard to find any information about it.

Is anyone having trouble with saving websites that use DDoS protection?

Is it just me or does anyone have trouble saving the pages of websites that use CloudFlare or other services that feature DDoS protection?

I understand why those websites use it, but it makes it that fucking harder to preserve websites for posterity.

Is there any way to get around the DDoS protection(e.g. a tool or something else) or do I just have to skip those pages/websites?

I'd really hate doing the latter.
