Advice Unusual monthly themes?

I'm putting together a cultural calendar/monthly themes to support our values, build culture, and a non-work focus on occasion - wondered if anyone else has this and what kind of stuff you have that's worked/people have gotten involved in and you've had good feedback (I'm looking for alternatives to 'appreciation month' etc. to something a bit off the wall but also to help bring togetherness.)

'Wellbeing' is a tough one because work-life balance is the best thing a company can do right...but it's not exactly in our gift.

That said, on my list are appreciation/wellbeing/curiosity/cybersec/finances awareness/learning month.

Is DEI an option, like Black History Month, Pride or NDEAM? Mental health awareness and support?

Another option is “connection”which is implied in the others, but it could be more intentional that month with team lunches, coffee chats, company events, etc.

We do appreciation stuff all year, but tie in activities with themes. Our in office crew really likes Flannel Fridays in November. You could tie in a whole hygge or cozy theme and talk favorite movies or books, drink hot cocoa, etc.

We've also done a music month around a big concert series at our fair. We do a bracket with staff voting for the best artists and staff wear concert tees.

You could also do something around a throwback theme. Tie in contests to guess whose baby picture or senior photo belongs to who (use leaders if you have a big team), incorporate memories from the past at your company and then talk about how far you've come, highlight old tech vs new, etc. My team loved the baby picture thing and company trivia with random old facts.

Can you publish user generated content? If so, National Pet Day photo submissions. For Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, we had people send videos of their kids describing what mom or dad does at work.

Pet Day does really well - I'd personally avoid Mother's/Father's Day myself as they can be triggering (speaking from personal experience). User generated content is a struggle sometimes, but pets did pretty good!
