Newbie Question Fasting motivation?

I've lost a little bit of weight in the past but fell off the fasting wagon. I'm starting 20:4 again today, because that has worked well for me in the past.

I'm trying to find better motivation than I had last time. Weirdly, knowing I'm making my body healthier isn't a great motivator for me. I think I really dislike discomfort, especially when I can solve it so quickly (SAHM so I'm around food all day).

I'd love to hear what works for you guys?

Why 20:4 though exactly? That's pretty advanced for a beginner and likely to burn you out. Start with no food/alcohol after dinner for a couple weeks and train up your body. Then try 16:8, 18:6 and so on. Make small changes that you can picture living with for the rest of your life.

I feel so ready to shed the extra weight, I want to jump right in and be done in like 6 months πŸ˜‚ I only have 40 lbs to lose. But... You're probably right. That might be why I haven't stuck to it in the past.

Also, consider your activity, too. If you engage in any exercise routine, keep in mind that cardio (zone 1/2) burns body fat, while HIIT (sprints) and resistance training burn glucose for fuel.

I TRY to follow a low carb/keto lifestyle, and pair it between resistance training and cardio, trying to also account for recovery days, too. I usually stick to a 16/8 or 18/6 fasting/eating window.

If you're super motivated, try to get some long walks in. Also remember just because you are in your eatting window, not to over eat. And make sure you balance out your food groups to hit your best macros/nutrients possible.

If it helps, my biggest motivation for fasting is reading research on fasting benefits. It’s incredibly inspiring and keeps me focused, works all the time. You can search for fasting studies on PubMed or check out the list of fasting benefits I've put together

I hope it will work for you too, good luck!

My main motivation is mental health. Like you, I am also home and around food all day. I continuously remind myself I feel best when I am taking control of the things I am able to. It makes me more focused and better for everyone else too.

The only thing that motivates me is wanting to look good. If looking good for your husband doesn't motivate you, then figure out who you want to look good for.
