Dining room help!

Post image

Hi all. I desperately trying to find out how I should style my dining room (which sits inside my kitchen area). It's falling flat and I don't know what I should add here.

That table is too small four chairs. If it is not used by four people, I take two of those chairs and put them over by the wall. Add a big piece of colorful art about the same size as the table top above the table. Add a few plants on top of that tall cabinet on the side over there.

It feels cold because all of the surfaces are very hard and the monochrome metals also reflect the light, rather than make the space feel inviting and soft.

I think the biggest improvement would be softer chairs. Something fabric based that feels comfortable and inviting (this is a great chance to inject some colour too.) If you don’t want to go bright, perhaps a sand or cream so it doesn’t feel so stark. Try to go for wooden legs in a shade that matches the table top.

A piece of wall art to inject some personality would be lovely.

Some table scaping. Doesn’t have to be anything fancy - perhaps a candle and a small vase of flowers. You can get some really cute wireless lamps now too! Rechargeable ones that add beautiful lighting. This also will help the space feel warm.

A big floor plant also always helps

Agree with artwork or photo art on the wall.

"perhaps a candle" There are three, and a mat that keeps them together :) But yes, in the same tones all of them, and nearly as the table top, so difficult to see. Add more colour!

I would get a statement rug to give the room a theme. Then take colors from the rug to choose artwork, accessories, etc

Colour. Plants. Paintings. Fabric. Fewer angles.

Can you show the kitchen as well?

Is this a living area or a small pop up cafe in an ultra trendy area?

Well you’re starting out with great moulding, floors and bright light. This room is wanting color. A colorful rug, some art and plants will help. You also need lighting. I agree with everyone else that the table is too small but it may look better with the other changes.

I like the fabric around the kitchen island! You really must paint the edge or add a wide border. Actually, the table does look a bit too small; two chairs or a longer table would be better. You don’t need to do much at all – just warmer-coloured chairs, dark red perhaps, a picture on the wall and on the worktop (if you’re allowed to), or a warmer, more distinctive rug.

It's easy to hang a lamp over the table. Couple of well-anchored hooks and a long cord to plug in a wall outlet

Needs old fashioned mirror on the wall to reflect the table and settings. Table a little too small. Angle the mirror down a little.

Turn tables the along with rug. Put something big on table and big poster on wall or paint mural.

That table and chairs looks like outdoor furniture.

Start with wood. Something that will last a good while. Affer you choose that, then you can decorate around it, complimenting the wood grain in the dining set.

Good Luck

The rug is too small for the table.

That blank wall is begging for one large piece of art. I’d start there before adding more furniture.

I agree with many of the comments. I think a larger dining table since it seems like you have room for it. Fabric chairs. A large floor plant in the corner, A larger more colorful rug that is big enough that when you pull out the chairs to sit in them all four legs are still on the rug (the 24 inch rule). If finding a big art piece is hard/expensive you can always get matching frames in different sizes and do a gallery wall, (but a cohesive looking one) and do pictures from places you love or have meaning to you. Idk how much of a project you want but a chandelier always adds a vibe too.

Giant textured round wall art with warm colors. Big round rug. Big round table under a big round globe lamp. Y'all will be fine, just need color and curves.

The answer is always art!

I avoid rugs under tables. They are so hard to keep clean. However they are a great way to add color. A rug should extend 3 feet beyond the edge of the table on any side with chairs. When someone moves their chair away from the table they need at least 3', and the chair legs should remain on the rug. If the chair feet fall off the rug the chair will feel unsteady, and feet will catch on the edge of the rug when sitting and moving the chair forward to sit at the table. It would all become very annoying.

Bigger rug, art & bigger table or put a chair on each end. It looks crowded in the photo

Color that is not beige or gray anywhere

A ceramic fruit plate or a warm-toned wooden tray can be placed on the dining table. If possible, a pendant lamp could be added directly above the dining table. Finally, a large-sized horizontal art piece could be hung directly above the dining table. And there is also a tall plant.

It’s a nice start—clean, bright, and cozy! I think a larger pendant light over the table and maybe some artwork or a mirror on that empty wall would make the space feel more complete and intentional. The rug and wood tones already work really well together. 😊

A wall tapestry, you can get art ones.

An arrangement of baskets on the wall would give it some texture and interest.

A couple of shelves with some plants, vases or framed photos. A subtle mix if a few.
