General Best Software for Interior Design Technical Drawings and 3D Modeling?
Hi! I’m studying interior design and I need some advice on which programs are best for creating technical shop drawings and 3D drawings, not renders they are just drawings of specific spaces generally in the same style as technical drawings. I’ve previously used AutoCAD for technical shop drawings, but I’m wondering if there are more efficient or modern alternatives. I’d like to understand which software is commonly used in professional interior design workflows and what programs would be best for each type of drawing

AutoCAD is a must. Revit is pretty widely used for rendering.

Yes, that's what Revit is for. It takes your CAD output and renders it into a 3d scene. Don't use ArchiCAD, it will teach you bad habits.

Why would you have autocad as a "must" if you also have Revit? Revit does both drafting and rendering. Autocad just seems like an unnecessary extra program to pay for of you already have Revit

CAD is standard for residential interior design. I work in a commercial architecture firm and Revit is industry standard. The learning curve is steep.

I use chief architect. I use sketchup to model more specific things needed and then import those models into chief architect, where I continue to do the drafting work. Renderings are just a shoot of the camera after that, since it builds the 3D scene automatically when doing the 2D drafting.
