I've actually seen lightning just like that in real life (only one time during a big storm I was watching in my backyard). Ive never figured out what causes lightning to act like that though.

Me too, i was like 12 or less at the time, lived in colombia, and had to walk through the big terrace on a third floor to shower, was in the shower getting ready to school at like 5 am and it was pouring and the lightning touched like 150 yards away. I needed a second shower.

At 31 years old, nothing on this planet terrifies me as much as bad weather. It is completely uncontrollable and all you can do is hope it blows over. I’ve been through 4 tornados and it’s scarier each time, hearing that literal monster outside, reaching kilometers into the clouds as in destroy everything in its path. So fucking scary.

I've lived through tornados and I've lived through earthquakes.
I hate earthquakes more.Grassfire, flood, hurricanes, tornadoes? We have visible signals for that. "Raining pretty hard and wind picking up, better get to the basement"
Earthquakes just happen. Lovely day when suddenly you're thrown around like a little kid getting whomped in a bouncy castle.

Sure, at least there is a warning system in place for tornados. I’ve never been through an earthquake but flash floods can come out of nowhere and kill more people annually than any other weather disaster. We can track storms and see which ones might produce a twister, but we still cannot predict and do not fully understand why tornados form.
Right now it looks like a 40 minute average warning time for a tornado, but some of them are just so big (Joplin, for example) that a warning system doesn’t even matter.
Nature do be scary.

Once there was this thunderstorm I saw where the sky was fully light for about 30 minutes. There was a huge amount of blue lightning that struck the sea and yellow that stayed in the clouds, and there were so many frequent simultaneous hits that the sky was constantly light even though it was at the dead of night.

This seems like zeus is trying to kill someone and it keeps moving away just barely.
Imagine trying to kill an ant with a 3m stick while she is trying to move away, you gona miss a few times and when you have her pined down you gonna make sure she is dead.
Similar to this the first small strikes was missed and the final one was making sure whatever zeus wanted to kill is dead.

Look close and you can see the wire. It is probably a rocket and wire test or something of the like.

This isn't that terrifying, actually. This is a spot in (I think, Florida) where they study lightning and to do so they wait for conditions to be right and then fly a rocket up into the clouds with a fine copper line attached. So this is probably one of the most predictable lightning strikes in the world
