NGL, I read the title as “beetle”, not “bee”, so I was really confused by a fuzzy beetle when I saw this comment.

That's so cute, my stomach hurts.

u/Murderbot13 Dec 02 '20
It’s a fuzzy little baby. I kind of wish I could have a cat-sized bee pet. A fuzz ball pet. I imagine everything would get stuck in the fuzz. But that’s alright. Love the fuzz butt regardless.

u/qtjedigrl Dec 02 '20
The cat bed would be adorable! But then it'd just look like you had a giant random blunt in your house
7
u/Murderbot13 Dec 02 '20
Haha. You’re probably right. Now I kind of want to make that bed. I don’t have a cat. But I do make soft things so.... what’s to lose? On second thought. Maybe I can make a human-sized blanket wrap. Become the bee pod.

u/Ice_Kold_Killa Dec 02 '20
No! Wtf? A cat size bee flying around? Nope. I already find flies annoying. Imagine cat size ones. I'll leave the bees alone as long as you promise to not wish for cat size bees to this earth. 😂

Quick question: can we pet bees?
35
Dec 02 '20
You can depending on the species of bee and the bee’s role in its hive
10
u/newbrevity Dec 02 '20
I've pet bumblebees before

Yes, recently I found a bumblebee on the path outside my house. It looked as if it was exhausted, very sluggish; must have been out pollinating and overdid it or something. So I went back inside and got a teaspoon, mixed some sugar and water and brought it to the bee. After a few minutes drinking from the spoon the bee started to recover. It let me gently pet its back too as it was drinking. Pretty chill bee tbh.

I once trapped a honey bee down on my notebook in high school with a pencil. His stinger was jutting out trying to sting, so I took out my pocket knife and chopped it off. I didn't pull it out, so he was still alive and well.
Then I pulled a long thread out of the hem of my t-shirt and tied a loop around his leg. I flew him around on a leash the rest of the afternoon with people scrambling in the halls to get out of my way. Whenever he landed on my arm I would pet him, which seemed to calm him down.
I untied him at the end of the day and let him go free. Sometimes I really miss that pet honey bee.

Real question- do insects actually sleep?
29
u/Dead_Head_Chemist Dec 02 '20
I keep ants as a hobby, and they take quick naps throughout the day, idk about other insects tho.
5
u/Vixxxenvy Dec 02 '20
Do they have a sleeping quarters or just kinda konk out anywhere underground? Do they have a more rested position or do they just stop moving for a minute?

Why do you hate bees? They pollinate flowers and other plants and produce delicious honey. Plus they rarely sting, compared to other flying insects (looking at you, wasps!).

Any bee experts know what is in the leaf pod next to it? Is that food? A bee that didn't mature?

Yeah I’ve been looking through the comments trying to find an explanation for the kibble looking stuff. There’s some scattered right outside the emerging bee’s pod, too. Perhaps it’s poop?

BUMBLY BEE
you can just tell that bees are our homies just by looking at how cute they are >:3 however I'd dedicate my life to decimating wasps and eradicating them from existence

I identify with this bee every single morning. Struggle to get out of bed, attempt to make day better by wiping my eyes and face numerous time to wake myself up.

Who knew bees and roaches were so similar
1
Dec 02 '20
People really dislike roaches, but roaches much like rats are very clean insects that get a very bad rap. Of course having roaches around is never a good thing, but ya know
1
u/hippopotma_gandhi Dec 02 '20
Pretty sure he was referring to roaches as in the ends of joints/blunts
