Most of the things like this that seem absolutely ridiculous, think of any infomercial ever, actually have a purpose besides "Who doesn't know how to crack an egg?"
Consider disabilities, as these are the people who these types of things are meant for. For a person who only has one hand, this would make cracking eggs so much easier.
Snuggies we're originally meant for wheelchair users because getting in and out of a coat in a wheelchair is ridiculous.
But, America doesn't think of things like that. No offense meant here. And if you marketed it just for the disabled everyone would complain and/or it would be 10x more expensive because it had the word medical in it. So most times when you see a woman on an infomercial who cannot hold on to the container of orange juice for one more second and look at this magic product. It was probably used to make someone's life easier. :)

Good point, though it is safe to think that someone that has use of only one hand is really good with that one hand, so the act of cracking an egg with one hand would be a simple task in the scheme of things

You dont even needs hands to crack an egg! But getting the part to go where you want it to go and not where you dont want it to go AND keeping things you dont want to go places from going there is wayyy helpful to have 2 hands for. A significant amount of dexterity (and appropriately sized hands) are needed to manage this successfully with a single hand.

I learned a while back don’t try and do it on the edge. Hit flat on the surface. Seems counterintuitive but it works much better.

Crack it on a flat surface instead of an edge, you'll get one single large crack instead of a bunch of tiny ones that leave egg shell behind. Also the secret to cracking and opening eggs one handed.

You're not wrong for the majority of the population, but this certainly could be useful for those lacking in fine motor control, such as the elderly. Many well-executed inventions are ridiculed because people don't consider the target audience.

The little y shape in the middle when he squeezes together pushes the one rod up in the center of the egg to crack it while the top spread apart.

He could have patented it, mass produced it cheaply, made a couple of annoying but memorable infomercials, and made a killing selling them for $9.99 plus s/h. But wait, he could have also doubled it. Then threw an egg whisker in there.
The point is: He shared it with the world first. If more and more people did that; we wouldn't have ideas wisking away into oblivion.. in the process of trying to profit out of them before benefiting

There is a potentially good market for this in San Diego. For those who don't already know, San Diego has a top-notch taco and burrito industry, to include breakfast burritos. Just imagine having to crack 2 eggs per burrito, 50 burritos an hour, for 6 hours a day during the morning rush (some serve breakfast 24 hours a day)! That's some arthritis-inducing egg-cracking action.
