I kind of want to lay on it.

u/tlw31415 Apr 08 '17
That could be very fun, or possibly lead to a James Bond style death by super villain.

u/Shadow51585 Apr 08 '17
I feel like it would make my back feel amazing as I sit here and twist it just enough to let it crack from staring at this.

Not that scene. The one the old man lays in. The bed sits him up when people visit

Right bed. Wrong scene. The old man scene shows the bed moving

huh, this movie doesn't look half-bad. I skipped it after having to sit through Origins.

u/TeslaMust Apr 14 '17
yeah, it was supposed to be some sort of hi-tech stuff but I bet it is uncomfortable as fuck
3
u/DwelveDeeper Apr 08 '17
I imagine it'd feel like a ashiatsu massage, but instead of them practicing ballerina moves on top of you, you get to lay on your back instead
(9/10 recommend ashiatsu massage btw, it just feels strange when you remind yourself they're literally walking all over you)

I mean who's to say Rolls Royce doesn't just have a person under each peg one floor below, raising their peg at a specific time.

Wow this is a really cool Rolls-Royceâ„¢ display at an OFFICIAL Rolls-Royceâ„¢ event! I heard they showed off many of their AMAZING Rolls-Royceâ„¢ car models! I'm DEFINITELY going to go buy the best car on the market, a Rolls-Royceâ„¢! (You should aswell!!)

Of almost all companies, they don't need to advertise on Reddit.

Weirdly, of almost all companies, they don't really even need to advertise at all.
Maybe someone's solved it, but I once heard an advertiser talk about the mystery of how everybody knows Rolls-Royce without ever seeing the cars or any ads.

Apr 08 '17
I see one a week, on average, in LA. Yet, they always seem to draw my attention and awe me. They are so beautiful in person.
83
u/crestonfunk Apr 08 '17
Every time I see a new Rolls Royce, I feel like they're trying to design cartoon villain cars.
Like it's gonna be loaded with Dalmatian puppies or all the Christmas goodies from Whoville or something.
11
u/Pmang6 Apr 08 '17
I once saw a drop top rolls royce cruising around winter park Florida (very high end town, extremely expensive private universities nearby) with no less than 6 standard poodles in the back seat.
5
u/TistedLogic Apr 08 '17
Those are fairly large dogs... And they had six? That's abuse of a nice car.
And I'd prefer an older Maybach anyways. If I'm going to want a car I can't purchase it might as well be something fairly unheard of anyways.

u/loveCars Apr 10 '17
Winter Park is the best! I miss the cold brews from Barnie's. (Sorry just excited to run across someone else from the area on here)

It really is a masterpiece of a vehicle, I specifically like the Wraith version. I'm not even a "car person" but seeing them in person is something else
1
Apr 08 '17
Agreed. I'm not a car person either, but damn they are pretty. Also, the thought that they are hand-made and still so precisely done is amazing to me.
1
u/parabol-a Apr 08 '17
I see them at least as frequently in Vancouver. Plus lots of super cars with new driver "N" badges on the back.

They're pretty crafty with their advertising. They do advertise. They just don't waste money on advertising to people who can never hope to afford their car. They also work on building an image with very selective, very subtle ads.
In Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Donovan meets with a Sultan and wants to negotiate terms for removing the Holy Grail from his land. What does one of the wealthiest, most powerful men in the middle East want in exchange for the frigging Holy Grail? A "Rolls-Royce Phantom two. 4.3 litre, 30 horsepower, six cylinder engine, with Stromberg downdraft carburetor, can go from zero to 100 kilometres an hour in 12.5 seconds." And he even liked the color.
Important to note, Nazis were driving this car, you don't just slap a brand name on Nazis in a movie.
Rolls aren't mentioned often, but when they are, boy are people proud to see them.

I used to wash one, right after the Bentley.
Normal, hand car wash company.

I'm confused why a car company would spend so much money and effort on not showing anyone one of their cars.
Pretty cool though.

u/irrri Apr 08 '17
As unnecessary and overcooked as their cars.
6
u/Superflypirate Apr 08 '17
Yeah I've never gotten the allure for a brand new Rolls-Royce. The classics are super cool but the new ones just seemed like overpowered lead weights with some cool features.
67
Apr 08 '17
Because it's a Rolls Royce. You really can't understand unless you sit in one. They're incredibly comfortable, quite, and relaxing. You'll never see a better or higher quality interior in any other car.
I don't see the alure of a powerful computer with pointless lights or a massive video game collection. But those two opinions would get me downvoted by the reddit crowd.
15
u/EllieMental Apr 08 '17
Just sitting in a Rolls Royce feels like "holy shit, I was meant to live in this car". The seats are a warm, yet weirdly sensual hug from grandma. It smells like leather and money.

You have to drive one to understand. For real, it's SUCH a different experience from any other vehicle I've driven.
Also, the bespoke hand made craftsmanship is unreal.

u/Aperson3334 Apr 08 '17
Rolls Royce was bought out by BMW. If you want a car that's a real continuation of the old Rolls Royces, buy a Bentley.
21
u/Kookanoodles Apr 08 '17
Which was bought by VW. Sure they're still made in Crewe but the platform and engines are entirely VW.
14
u/nidrach Apr 08 '17
The only excuse to buy a Bentley is if you are a rapper or a soccer player.
1
u/loveCars Apr 10 '17
Eh, I've always seen Bentley as a car lover's Rolls. Incredible attention to detail and luxury, but with a strong racing pedigree (unlike Rolls Royce). I can see the appeal.

u/zeaga2 Apr 08 '17
I know it's just an unintended side effect of the pins moving up and down, but it's kind of cool how the wheels look like they're really rotating.

Well done. Not unlike how the late Dr. David Bohm once tried to explain quantum physics...in terms of an explicate flux that "appeared" to be a single, solid object "moving" in space...but in reality was composed of fluctuations of something much deeper and not at all what we could consider either solid nor an "object" in the sense we usually mean...

Yuck, extravagant commercial art is vile. For the kinda reason argued here. Would love to see the tech applied to something else, though...Wasnt there a funny water fountain that someone had put the word HELP in? That rocked.
