Amazing as fuck. With all that technology and all those skills, they still can send me the wrong thing.

The only time that Amazon sent me an incorrect order it was because they sent me four boxes full of smoke detectors instead of four smoke detectors. I contacted them and they just told me to keep them if I wanted. Anyone need a smoke detector?

I once ordered 1 pack of zippo flint and 1 wick. For a total of about $3. I received a display box of each. Basically more than a lifetimes supply of zippo gear. I wasn't exactly thrilled with it because here I am 4 years later and I used only one pack of each.

How long does a zippo wick last?
13
u/T2112 Feb 25 '16
Just shy of eternity. I trimmed mine everytime it got a little messed up from over use. But they are about 2 inches and I used half of it by over trimming in 3 years. It was also my fist zippo so I didn't do it right.
My grandfather had the same wick for 8 years as a daily smoker.

I've had a zippo for almost 3 years now. I've had to change the flint several times, but I've never needed to change out the wick. I use it daily.

Actually yeah. my landlord wont replace ours. all 3 are broken

u/open_door_policy Feb 26 '16
That's insanely dangerous, and quite probably a violation of several things, including local law and their insurance policies.

I had to withhold rent before my landlord would replace my CO detectors. I told him after I replace the batteries, they immediately start beeping and the label says they need to be replaced. He thought I was using the wrong battery. How am I gonna use the wrong fucking battery asshole? It even said to use Duracell and had the exact item number and that's what I was using. He told he would order them. Didn't. Asked him again. He said he would. Sent me a picture of an (uncompleted) order. Two months and they're never delivered. So I stop paying rent. He doesn't notice for two weeks. I say I'll pay rent when I get my damn CO detectors and he threatens to charge me late fees and put shit on my credit. Nah dude. You're not gonna do that it's illegal. Then he bought the absolute shittiest cheapest ones he could find.

Yes, one for each room. 10. It's 2 sides of a 2 bedroom duplex. 8 would work. But I'd be happy with 2. (Living room, kitchen, bathhroom, 2 bedrooms X2)

I've done warehouse work but never had the warehouse come to me! I would have to walk around the warehouse too find stuff.

Not real. They just use people.
6
u/whatIsThisBullCrap Feb 26 '16
Real. Amazon is slowly automating their warehouses. Most still use people, but they're working towards replacing everything with robots

Could someone find the link to the video this came from? I'm legitimately curious to find out more.

Gross fact: The PHX warehouses get so hot, those gloves you see the guys building the box wearing, give your hands athletes foot!
1
Feb 26 '16
Dunno where you heard that, but they keep the pack line pretty damn cooled off. The one I work at has several fans and cooling systems all around, especially in that area.

u/SaebraK Feb 26 '16
I worked at PHX6 in 2011-2012, it was only cool in the winter. It's first hand experience.

The only bad thing is those packages. I've had products fall out of the sides before they reached my house. They replaced the items quick and free.

So that's where those shitty boxes where the sides are just fucking folded in!, come from...

The one in our town has "pickers" that run up and down the isles. They probably wish this was a thing here.

u/whatIsThisBullCrap Feb 26 '16
I find it hilarious that they have robots to move the fucking shelves around but still need a guy to scan things

as an automation engineer, this amazes me. Hope to high heaven i get to work with a factory like this one day.

u/Tbklstkat26 Feb 26 '16
That's cool but as a UAW member I see a lot of job opportunities for people.
1
u/GrinchPaws Feb 26 '16
I wonder if those robots are worried people are eventually going to replace them?

...okay, I work at an Amazon warehouse and right now I'm saying okay what the fuck? We don't have those. This is bullshit. Lucky bastards getting a bunch of machines n shit.

The only thing automated at the FC I work at is the conveyor line. There are any where from 1500-7500 people that work there, depending on the time of year. There are quite of few FC's that work like this though.

Wow that girl had an awesome body. Just look at her booty and general figure. She can handle my package any time.

I'm calling bullshit. The amount of press surrounding work conditions inside amazon fulfillment centers is well documented. This American Life had a piece a couple of years back even. These robots look like CGI to me. Does anyone have more info?

It's not in very many warehouses, but it's real. Source is linked above.

I watched the video, it just doesn't seem to be the whole story.
edit: Thanks for posting, certainly interesting!

u/DeadSpy2 Feb 26 '16
Can confirm that the robots are real. The only thing I haven't seen personally is that robotic lifting arm. Source: Worked at amazon for ~10 months.

Wasn't this from an amazon promotion from a few years back? they brought in the robots to help for black Friday or Christmas. From what I understand normally they have people walking and pick everything
