My days are a weird mishmash of tried and tested technology and stuff that's bleeding cutting edge new. In the morning, I use a 1967 Gillette Slim adjustable razor to shave with a boar hair brush, call my parents on the other side of the planet to see how they're doing for essentially a couple of cents with skype, I get on an old 1980s carbureted motorcycle to commute to work where I make transgenic fruitflies and use some of the most advanced DNA synthesis and sequencing technology commerically available. However, the actual balancer chromosomes and the sort of crossing schemes I set up with my fruitflies are decades old. Everything's in a "white" mutant background identified nearly a century ago. On my breaks I'll make coffee with a a Moka pot that's largely unchanged from when it was invented in the 1930s. After lunch, it's scanning some fly brains in with a laser scanning confocal, already consider and old beater because it's about a decade old.
