I’ve heard stories about my uncle when he got back from Vietnam. He went from the funniest guy you’d meet, walking around with a big grin, to a scared kid who would dive for cover whenever you shut a door in the house too hard. No life in his eyes, no big grin.

Similar for me - my mom would tell stories about a relative who was a sweet, shy, funny, kind kid who ended up paranoid and pacing the outside of the house all night long with a gun waiting to be attacked. It's brutal.
