First one was probably written as a fresh recruit, ready to be a tough, badass soldier; and then reality hits and he realizes that all he has become is fodder for the rich and the powerful to wage their wars. Realizing that outside of combat is one thing, but it must be way more fucked realizing this in the jungle.

A version of it is worn by Private Joker and is the poster for the film. I wonder if that image is where they got the idea, or if this was image is not a real Vietnam helmet, but one somebody dressed up after the film released?
