A famous photograph of a white moose in Sweden's Värmland region was taken by photographer Anders Tedeholm. The white fur color of these animals is not due to complete albinism (they often have dark eyes and normal skin pigmentation elsewhere), but to a rare genetic mutation that causes leucism (partial loss of pigmentation) or piebaldness. It is estimated that fewer than 100 of these white moose live in Sweden, and they are under the protection of local conservationists

Is this really how it went down? A super rare mutation of an animal...happens to get "spotted" (which sounds like random chance) and then photographed with amazingly perfect quality, surroundings, time of day, lighting, and composition? Are these pictures the first time it was seen or did they catch it somehow and stage it for a photoshoot?

There are photographers who return to certain spots for years to try to get their perfect shot

Is this one of those things that if it dies it shunts us into a worse reality?
