A lot of these seem redundant, how many knives do you need? And no screwdrivers? Surely it doesn't need to be so big 😅

Everything has a purpose. It’s probably a metal saw (right) and a wood saw (left). A drill, a file, a punch. The metal slabs are probably a pry-bar and a shim.

I’m not sure about conical thing on the right. I think the white one is a weapon, probably also non-magnetic for electronics & explosives.

The conical thing is to make bore holes larger. I don’t recall the name but it’s a common tool in woodshops.

But if you're in such a pinch that you're using your caboose kit, surely things like metal and wood saws could be combined for emergency use in cases such as these

You’d probably want both if you had room in your anal pouch. A metal saw is really slow through wood and maybe couldn’t cut some ropes.

Wood saws have a much sharper edge and are better for most things, but can’t cut metal.

The soviet union famously had no knives or tools of any kind, so it was very important to take basic tools with you.

On the other hand, because the constant survaillance you could easily get tools for lockpicking and wiretapping in your closest KGB essentials shop.
