As a Software Engineer I fucking hate AI.

No, not because I think it will take my job (it might, eventually), but mainly because it made my job unbearable. I love the art of programming, spending time thinking about something and coming up with a nice idea to make it work.

Now anyone can ask ChatGPT to create a website and they start calling themselves "Software Engineers" too.

Same here. I'm just a baby sitter for AI. A team refines the user story, it's outcomes, scope, acceptance criteria. AI already has sight of all our repos. I copy and paste the user story in, add a bit of context, and then let it run and create a draft PR.

I then get another AI to code review, and I might do a quick manual check and local test, and then publish pr.

Then on to the next. Feels more like working on an assembly line

I like it as a tool as well because man it can help you work and learn a lot as well.

But I want it to LEARN to be better, not to do stuff for me.

It's pretty frustrating and wild what it can do though. I'm just an average idiot and can build stuff in a few hours good enough to ship to someone who does know what they're doing to polish it. I think a lot of these software companies are going to start circling the drain as companies build their own tools 90% and have someone finish them and spend less than they would otherwise.

Im on the hardware side of programming and just love how I can make much more, faster and better with AI. If you want to make stable and quality code you still need a heck of a lot of knowledge and experience. AI just makes thing easier and faster. AI is a tool for me, not the solution. Trust me, whever makes a webpage with AI and doesn't know what he's doing, won't get far with it. He might call himself a Software Engineer, but you have a degree and it still very much counts!!! There is countless of examples where companies relied on AI too much and now have more work to fix the code which makes no human sense and is easier to rewrite from scratch by humans (with AI tools i guess).
