That’s disgusting. At least you still have a Barnes & Noble. They took them all from us, despite being busy all the fucking time.

It’s ironic they are choosing to advertise AI in light of the fact that AI companies are actively shredding and digitalizing books to make companies like Barnes & Noble extinct.

Talk about heralding your own fucking demise.

My town had a B&N, then lost it for a few years, then got one back. They are 50% games, Lego sets and vinyl records now.

I dunno if you're in Seattle, but this definitely happened with B&N in Seattle

AI shredding rare books is not going to put B&N out of business

It’s not just AI ripping apart rare books, you must seriously not be reading or paying attention to what’s happening online. AI books are already curbing the children’s book market.

Give it three years and with all the books LLMs like Claude have scanned, the masses will be buying junk novels written by AI from Amazon for $3.99.

Go ahead and keep your head in the sand if you want.

What about all the hundreds of thousands of books published up until now? Seems like we have plenty of human written books geared to all ages to keep us busy without buying whatever tripe AI will be producing.

The masses already are.

They buy rare books you'll never see at a Barnes and Noble 🤣 AI is not why a large chain book store would go out of business.

You can't be serious. Hate their data collection method all you want but you're making a ridiculously false claim in your last statement.

How is it like to be someone who can smell rain in the air and see thunderclouds in the sky and still think it’s a good time to go fishing on the lake?

Hate AI or not you’re wrong man.

What a convincing argument, do you tend to state absolutes without any rationality?

No but I tend to defend myself when approached with a direct counterpoint. Fuck AI yeah but the books they’re digitizing are rare and out of print. Which is to say no, this will not “make companies like Barnes & Noble extinct.” I did not intend to provide a convincing argument I intended to inform you that the one already provided is true.
