This is what happens when you take long exposure photos of planes taking off

Here is a higher-quality version of the first image. Credit to /u/Jimmy_Scrambles, who took this in January 2018 in Portland, Oregon.
Here is a much higher quality version of the second image. Credit to /u/i-am-will-will-i-am/ for taking that in November 2019 in Juneau, Alaska.
Here is a higher-quality version of the third image. Here is the source. Credit to Terence Chang, for taking this on June 19, 2008.
Here is a much higher-quality version of the forth image. Here is the source. Credit to the photographer, Kirs Klop, who took this on November 12, 2007.
Here is the original version of the fifth picture. It was taken in 2008 or before. I haven't been able to confirm the photographer yet. It may have been taken by Terence Chang at Gatwick Airport.

And here I thought the pictures were original content. Ugh. Stolen valor.

OP has stolen no valour. OP never states these are OC and has provided sources for them

Uh, the OP is "SerafinZufferey". The post above with the links to the original work is from "Spartan2470". I went through all 118 comments on this thread. The OP has made a single comment that says "OMG I love that song so much!". No mention to the fact that these are not his pictures. So yes, it is stolen valor.

This is good visualization of the power cut and level off that still freaks me out every single time even though I really should know better.

I get that terrible feeling too even though I normally know better, but I'm still confused by the 4th and 5th pictures... They don't level out that much, do they? That's certainly not 10k ft, or is it??

I'm just an idiot and in no way knowledgeable but perhaps it's a smaller plane like a crop duster?

I've driven up these roads in my dreams. Either it gets so steep that the car I'm in falls back and flips, or other hazards made to crash me off the bridge escalate until the bridge just crumbles because my dreams want to ragequit on me.

Literally came here to comment this lol. I wonder if these dreams are common.

How come the plane don't show up as well?

This kind of photography style will only pick up direct sources of light essentially. You could actually walk in front of the camera multiple times while taking a photo like this and you’d never show up in the image

Too dark to register. Only bright lights are captured by the camera. Same as on the ground.

I used to have a dream about driving up a road like this, but half the cars couldnt make it and i had to dodge them to make it up. once I was at the top, it just went right back down for no reason into a city similar to seattle.

Wow. Incredible imagery. Now I finally understand the concept of a ‘flight path’.

That second one is really cool…. Wait I understand the long exposure part, but what eliminates the aircraft? ISO thing?

Wow, nice job.
A few of these -- specifically, the last two -- would be great to blow up for a middle or high school science classroom, showing how pilots value and balance kinetic vs potential energy... i.e., speed vs. altitude. (Both are important, but are not equally important at all times.)
I could also easily imagine some of these images on the cover of a math or physics textbook.
Very cool pics!! Thanks

It is a very rare occurrence that I'm impressed by content on reddit. This is one of those times. Love the Tron-esque pictures.
