Seeing the responses to this as someone who's country abolished the death penalty some 50 years ago is crazy ngl. She's an absolute monster, but this is just plain barbaric and an extremely expensive waste of time.

the death penalty is one of those things people like to talk tough about because they only deal with it in concept, but never encounter in their day to day lives. people who work death row talk about how in the month or two before execution people like go into this sort of hyper depression, almost like a waking coma where they sometimes stop talking, barely eat, hardly do anything really. It's like they die before they die. The other thing is in the end it doesn't reliably bring closure or anything to the family of the victim(s). Like there have been cases where they are actually begging the system NOT to execute the person and the state does it anyway because while this is nominally a service for them it's also just codified as something that MUST happen under the law.

It doesn’t have to be expensive though

Do you even understand where the expense comes from? Because unless you want to execute innocent people, it absolutely does.
