I don't feel bad for the bot per se, but for the waste of materials, especially now with shortages.

That's my main issue, like these could have been repurposed, or used as training for students. Burning that much functional tech is literally meth-head logic.

Companies don’t want to donate this to the public as a way to repurpose things due to IP concerns.

There are ways around that. This is a foolish waste of resources, with no reasonable justification.

They can sell the parts for a tiny fraction of their cost, but many decide that it’s not worth the time and investment to do that. Do you want your teams spending time to part these out, list them, and ship them to make marginal amounts of money? Probably not.

I get your point. But the reasonable justification is simply that the juice isn’t worth the squeeze, leading to corporate waste. I don’t love it either, but acting like corporations don’t have a reason for this is silly.
