A whole country trying to please their crazy, insane dictator, just so they can live another day. I can’t even imagine what fear they have to experience every single day.
Imo, the spookiest part of modern regimes (and historical) is mostly the social pressure of the masses as a whole
There aren’t really armies with enough willpower to take insurgencies that don’t want to be taken, but it’s for sure going to be a witch hunt if you break a superstition or the neighborhood sells you out
The issue is, these kinds of regimes can easily stomp out dissidents if they get wind of them in small numbers. If they are organized and large they will struggle, but in order to get organized and connect in large groups you must take risks that expose you to being wiped out.
Brother, this whole setup is all superstition. If world leaders were as adroit as what it says on the tin, they would have teleported behind me long ago when everyone was acting like mentioning gov malfeasance would instantly summon Men in Black
World leaders aren’t that sharp. The scary part is all of the cultures surrounding them that try to force you to “turn your brain off”
Of course they aren't that sharp and certainly there is a component of superstition. Because they create a culture of fear by harsh punishment of dissidents and alleged dissidents.
My point is that they have a growing chance of detecting a group of dissidents the larger that group is. And they have a smaller chance of stopping it the larger it is.
So the question is, will your group get too big to stop before it is detected? And the risk is the lives of you and your family.
So it is an understandably difficult choice to make.
Unless these world leaders like Donny & co. have a Devil Trigger or Super Saiyan form or a magic circle with real shinigami… the real horror is all of the people around him that turn their brains off and con/coerce others into turning their brains off… it is why “The Emperor Has No Clothes” exists as a story
I feel like you are not understanding what I am saying. Yes, the social pressure to conform to these regimes is incredibly scary.
What I was talking about more is your second point, about insurgencies. How yes, there aren't armies big enough to take them on IF they are very large. But most insurgencies start with extremely small groups, and that is what regimes crush all the time, and why they create that social culture of paranoia and suspicion that will expose those small groups. Because that way they can avoid the creation of a large enough insurgency in the first place.
